I wanted to the series justice and finish it before making a thread about it.

Fun fact, the original LN in written by Ryougo Narita, the same author that wrote Durarara!!! and is working on Fate/strange fake. Intertwined plots with a big cast is something that's very difficult to write, but this guy excels at it.

Baccano's setting is one you don't usually see in anime, being the 1930s USA and it definitely felt fresh to me.
Plot can be a bit confusing in the beginning because you're getting info dumped on all the parties involved and it took me a couple of episodes to figure out and remember who is who, what's their motivation, allegiance etc. I feel like the introduction of the series is its one weak point. I get that you're supposed to be confused at first, but it did nonetheless throw me off at first.
But once you get on track with it, it's quite a thrilling experience with likable characters, mystery and competent plot reveals.
The characters are what drives this kind of stories and Baccano certainly isn't lacking. Like with Durarara!!!, I had trouble picking my favorite character, but I went with Firo in the end, probably because I find his chaotic side to be quite charming.

All in all, despite all the praise, I enjoyed it less than I thought I would, most likely because the anime is hyped to high heavens. If I were to compare, I like Durarara!!! a bit more, but that's just my preference.

It's a fantastic and fun series, and one, like Cowboy Bebop, that I actually do recommend watching dubbed over subbed. You should watch the OVAs if you haven't and can find them.

It's definitely a unique setting compared to most anime.

I personally prefer Baccano to Durarara!! simply because the cast was more fun and the story was more fun once I figured it out.
