I believe this is where this should go. I believe instead of looking at whether we should keep the rep system or not, as it will obviously win any poll that is bought up on the topic, I believe we should be answering this question: Should bad (and possibly good) reps have usernames attached by force? IMO this would reduce rep abuse alot as ppl would think twice before repping someone as there would be a possible consequence to their actions. So I ask, Should Bad Rep have names attached to them by force?

    At the current time, there's no way to differentiate good rep from bad rep when allowing all members to see who left the reputation. ^_^;

Anyway, I'm gonna have to disagree. If somebody gets a bad rep, this idea would cause flame wars. If somebody gets a good rep, this idea would cause more rep abuse.

I dont know if ppl would start threads over one persons bad rep, because as Ive been told multiple times if its only one bad rep from one person get over it. Also Im sure the admins can be strict about making threads like those. The worst I can see of it is rep wars being started, but alot less reps would be handed out from the change IMO.

unfortunely the rep system isn't all that flexible.. it's not a required item, but is wholely optional and is just used to get a feel for each members posts.. abusing it serves no purpose other then to make you look bad and hurt the feelings of others.. why not, instead, educate users on it's proper usage and perhaps all of PC can benifit from it.

I think if members could see who left the rep then it would be bad.
Lets say that a member left a bad rep on another member. Well the member that got the rep might look at it in a bad way and start flaming. Then both members get in a fight and their friends jump it. And in the end it's not going to look pretty.
I just think it's best if members couldn't see who left rep.

I agree with Andy, It's not a good idea to do that...

Once I got a bad rep from doing a post fro dakota cause of him being mean to one of the artists on the art forum and calling them names.
I'm not sure who gave me that bad reputation point but I'm sure at the time if I saw who did it I would have been ticked and attacked them inside and out of this forum cause I was only standing up for the community of artists that are there.

However now a days I dont care who gave it to me, even if that was Dakota himself.
I deserved it for not grabing the facts, even though at the time I didnt believe it but at the same time its best for us to just place the "~ user" on the text for good reps so people can know who did it ^^.
I love knowing that RD, Piro, Dragonair, FG and many of my other friends given me reputation points.

I get a bunch of bad reps with no names attached with the words

"I like charizard better than heracross"

I want to know who did that so I can report them.

Sometimes they have no words at all

At my forum, we have Rep enabled, but you can see who left the rep. That way, if someone is abusing it, you can report it to the administrator

Well if you are getting bad rep over and over then all you got to do is PM a Praetor or Admin and they will check it out.

But praetors and admins aren't always online, Andy.

What I see from most of the staff posting here is this:

What I see from these is you two automatically jumping to the conclusion that if a person saw who gave them the bad rep, it would automatically cause a flame war. Not every person here is out to get people who give them bad reps. Yes, we all have to deal with bad reps, but I think people are wanting this change because of the fact that a lot of people would stop giving out unnecessary bad reps such as ones with rude comments and some that are just plain blank. Yes, flame wars could be started because of this, yet, everything in this world has it's pros and cons. Obviously, you two are just looking at the bad part of this "flame war", considering the person who gave the rep AND the person who received the bad rep would both get in trouble for their immaturity. Both members would learn to a. not use bad rep in an unnecessary manor and b. to follow the rules and don't flame over something as silly as a rep. Atleast, in my opinion, that is what I think.
Yes, in the end, the bad unnecessary rep or/and the flame war that would MAYBE start because of the rep, would have to be brought to the higher staff's attention, but the point that I am trying to get across is that most unnecessary bad reps would most likely drop in count because of the fact that the people who give out the unnecessary bad rep now know they will be caught and something will be done about it. At the moment, they probably think that they have less of a chance to get caught.

*Just make sure that I didn't give this idea to stop bad reps in general, but the unnecessary ones that are just blank or have unncessary comments and words in them.

No because that would defeat the purpose of the rep system. If someone gave someone else a bad rep, that person would give a bad rep back. Bad reps wouldn't reflect anything. Therefore, many people would choose not to give out bad reps when they would have been justified. What's the point of a rep system when no one would give bad reps (or people would have bad reps if they gave them out to others)?

If the person who received the bad rep, gave bad rep to the person who gave the original rep, and could not justify it, the person who got the unjustified rep would get it taken off from the higher staff.
People would give out bad reps, just as long as they could justify why they gave it.

Exactly. Praetors do this anyway so whats the difference? Everyone says flame wars would start from them, but the amount of bad repping unneccesarily would dramatically drop for sure.

Although this would most likely solve the problem of rep abuse, there's a possibility that it would bring even more problems. It's a good idea, but eventually we'd get a member who takes bad rep too personally, and will go out and start bad repping the person who bad repped him. In a way, it might bring even more rep abuse. =\ I guess we could give it a shot, and then just kill the idea if too many people were abusing it.

Yeah a trial would be what Id like the most (obviously). But surely the mods/admins can be stricter about rep abuse. Like punishment for repeat offenders or something.

Great idea, Andy. Keep the rep but if there's anyway for people to not see who gave them rep then that would be better.

Wow people, don't just post I agree with so and so, at least put some thought into your post, otherwise it is considered SPAM ;)

Just think though. In Andys scenario, the ppl who are foolish enough to get into those wars would soon have no rep left and wouldnt be able to continue being foolish, it kind of solves itself, even if there is a casualty or 2.
