Do you think the battle system is too slow?

Well I began to play Heartgold the other night on an emulator because my ds broke :(. I started to play and everything went over smoothly and it runs as if it were on a ds. My only issue with it is that in combat everything is so bloody slow... I do not mean that the emulator is not working properly I mean performing a single action a simple battle (example: one move kills the pokemon) takes at least two minutes. Granted two minutes is not long but compared to 2nd and 3rd gen games where I could complete most matches within 30-40 seconds it is a slow down... for me.

the battle system is somewhat slow i feel sometimes even the gameboy color games can run faster then this!

I was playing Pokemon Diamond recently, and I found that battling was rather slow..

It made me want to stop playing, so I did. x:

I agree, The battle system could use some speeding up. But I can understand why though, with all the new fancy graphics and such is bound to slow it down.

In general D/P were really slow games, especially if you play Black and White now and then try to go back to that. Even going back to Pt/HG/SS is tough to do now since I am so used to black and white.

I was playing SoulSilver a while back, and couldn't help but notice a battle speed reduction in comparison to my Black game. Then again, it seems like the battle speeds of Gen I-III are also much slower comparitively speaking. Personally, I do like that this seems to be increasing with each generation, and while I might think that Black/White might have the optimal speed, in a few years time I might disagree completely given the new speed of Gen VI!

HGSS aren't as bad as DP. Those are slow running games. In my experience, gen IV overall is the slowest. Gens I-III and V are all decent and playable speeds.

They are rather slow compared to the other games, but I'm guessing this was to highlight the new attack animations and overall graphics.

D/P feel like obvious betas thanks to their ludicrously slow processing. Pt/HG/SS are tolerable speedwise, but B/W finally got the processing down and run the fastest of any pokemon game.

In D/P, I couldn't help but notice how slow the battle process was compared to the games before and after it. I guess it's because GameFreak had a lot of game information to store in one cartridge.

So long as I haven't played any other Pokemon games recently, I don't find the battle system too terribly slow in Gen IV. The only thing I find horribly slow is the surfing in Diamond (I think they fixed it later). :P But if I have played any of the other main games before picking up a Gen IV title, I find it insufferable. Luckily, I don't cross gens very often when I play the franchise.

This is the main reason I've yet to replay Pearl - whenever I feel like restarting my game, I play a little bit of my current save first, end up getting frustrated at how sluggish it feels, particularly compared to Gen V, then I just give up. It's a shame, since I really want to try the games out again now that I'm more familiar with the game mechanics and whatnot (I essentially played like a complete newbie to the franchise the first time through...)

Honestly, I'm so used to playing GBA hacks on emulators that all the cartridge games feel slow to me.

Speed button is my favorite thing forever and nothing will change that.

Yes. The gameplay is sooooooooo ungodly slow. Don't get me wrong, its still fun, but everything just takes forever. The process of Leftovers healing a Pokemon takes 3 seconds. That may not sound like alot of time, but when you're playing against somebody else and wanna get the turns over with, its SO BORING. I also hated HOW THEY NEEDED TO REMIND YOU THAT THERE IS A WEATHER EFFECT EVERY SINGLE FREAKING TURN. Glad that in Gen V, you get Buffeted, turn over. Simple as that.

I noticed immediately the sluggish pace of the health bars; even at the beginning. In terms of 3-step encounters in caves and in waters, it CAN be a bit frustrating when you re-encounter TENTACOOL after TENTACOOL. But It's easy to get over when you really enjoy a POKeMON installation.

All of Gen.IV is terribly slow for me, especially D/P. Everything from 1HKO'ing a Zubat to the surfing was dreadfully boring. Don't get me wrong, I love D/P, it's just a little annoying when it takes well over a minute to knock out a Starly. Platinum and HG/SS were bearable, but I can't even play D/P without whining about the slowness within the first five minutes of gameplay.

The HGSS battle process is much better than DPPt battle process. The DPPt battle process is unbearable when comparing it to the other games.
