curious to know people's opinions on these, since I regard all of them as generally uninteresting and a step down from the normal battle mode. I haven't heard anyone talking about these, but who knows, maybe it's possible that there are people who actually enjoy them.
    • Triple Battle
    • Rotation Battle
    • Horde Battle
    • Inverse Battle
    • Sky Battle
what are your opinions on the battle variants? favorite one? least favorite? are there any similar variations on the battling formula you're hoping for in the future - either in Sun/Moon or later games?

From the listed 5, my favorite would be Triples and Inverse Battle. (I still prefer Doubles more compared to those two.)

The sense when you think hyper-offense is crucial to immediately take out the three, always never get fooled! You can easily be outplayed if you take a single wrong choice, either from targeting and doing the obvious Protects or using attacking moves with affecting every Pokémon only to get blocked by Wide Guard and get countered by the other two. Not just that, speed control is also important to ensure your Pokémon don't take much damage before they can land a hit to lower speed like Icy Wind/Electroweb or provide support like Tailwind or Trick Room.
The element of surprise is surely high here, that's why I like it better than Singles.

On the other hand, Inverse is pretty gimmick. Ice-Types become incredibly defensive while Steel and Fairy-Types cry, most Pokémon carry out unusual coverage moves that are usually resisted, like Bug and Normal. At least it gives some love towards Pokémon that are literally meh in usual battles.

None of them. I'm really not a fan of changing the mechanics of battles in any of those ways. Double battles are fine, I like some unique Pokemon combinations you can create with those and they can actually be useful. When you move into triple or rotation, it just feels like the battles are waaay more long winded. Idk if that's just me, but I've always avoided those types of battles as much as possible. I don't like the idea of switching between a rotation of three Pokemon against another three, it's just too time consuming imo!
