    As topic says. This is a debate on why the move FLY (Move name: Fly, Power: 70, Accuracy: 90, Type: Flying, Physical Attack) is so much hated and not used. Most probably many will take the side against FLY while a very small amount will take the side with FLY. I will start the debate, but I will take the side of going with FLY.

    The move Fly is the most easiest taught to a flying pokemon. its attack power is 70, 10 more than the usual Arial Ace or Wing Attack. even though it is known to miss sometimes because of 90 accuracy, it is the next strongest flying type attack after aeroblast. Fly stalls you for some time, and on the process of attacking and if your bird is fast enough, it can make your opponent's move miss. if used repeatedly sometimes it works as an annoyer (i've tried it as annoyer and it works for me alot) and can get convinient at times.

    thats all i'll say for now until someone else posts.

    Skarmory vs Venusaur

    Skarmory used Fly!
    ->
    Enemy withdraw Venusaur and send out Magneton!
    ->
    Its not very effective
    ->
    Magneton used Thunderbolt!
    ->
    Skarmory fainted

    As demonstrated above, it leaves yourself open so the opponent can send in something stronger. Not to mention, anything flying in the air is an easier target to hit when using Thunder. You're a sitting duck for ThunderDancers.

    It's about as useful as Dive and Dig. Not very.

    I will now tear apart your post and make you look like an idiot.

Fly stalls you for some time, enough for them to switch to golem or magneton as was earlier presented. and on the process of attacking and if your bird is fast enough, it can make your opponent's move miss. if used repeatedly sometimes it works as an annoyer no(i've tried it as annoyer and it works for me alot)ingame only and can get convinient at times.only when you need to fly somehwere

    Protect || Sub > Fly for stalling purposes
    Aerial Ace || HP Flying > Fly for attacking purposes

    End of story.

    it works EXCELLENT in my way of annoying. when my opponent switches to another pokemon.

    Salamence vs Venasuar
    Salamence used fly
    Venasaur returned and Magneton put in.
    Mangeton cant do anything good with thunderbolt cos salamence is dragon.
    magneton dead with flamethrower.

    i didnt say Fly had to be on at flying pokemon ALL the time. using different pokemon i can use fly differently.

    but on the other hand......
    crobat vs. venasuar
    crobat used fly
    venasaur returned for magneton.
    this will be a problem. sludgebomb wont work. while that guy thunderbolts my crobat it will last cos its EV's of spdef is maxed out with nature boosting spdef on it. i'll either switch to another pokemon or either whirlwind it away.

    I dont know flys no that bad... I use it on gym leaders and since they are so stupid it works on them.... I kinda like it outside of battle also...

    Thanks,
    Aaron

    Well Fly can be useful in 2 vs 2 since your opponent has no idea which pokemon you are targeting. It is unlikely they would switch both.

    but then in 2vs2 there are better strategies... like ghost/protect+explosion, skill swapping, healing each other by abusing absorbs and etc...

    The only reason why you should use fly is perhaps to stall while doing damage I suppose... but then I can't think of any good flyers that can stall like that =/

    That's what I use. Ghost Explosion.
    Anyways, yes Fly really sucks. You'd have a MUCH better shot with Aeroblast. However that has less PP and is the best in battling in Stadium when it's 3 on 3.

    However, if your opponent is a n00b, Fly is a good move to use.

    Please note, you can beat gym leaders with Tackle also, so, you know, don't refer to the goodness of a move based on things IN game. It is only good in game out of battle. In competitive battling, if you use Fly, you should just quit playing =[

    Fly/Dig/Dive gives your opponent a turn to switch to something resistant and counter you. If you want to spring a super effective on your opponent, do something that the pokemon using it can learn but is not very often used, such as Aerial Ace on Dugtrio... I couldn't think of a better example. I know it is quite often used, meh. And if you use, say, Aerial Ace on Aerodactyl and magneton is sent out against the aerial ace, you can earthquake it. If you had used fly, you would have gone first and come down on magneton, and be killed by thunderbolt.

    This is not a debate, its a waste of peoples time. Fly is stupid, only used in the game for moving purposes. It takes 2 turns to do about 70 damage. In 2 turns I could Aerial Ace and does 120 damage. No one is stupid enough to leave Magneton out to face Salemence, and Quake would of been a choice attack anyways. All in all, you failed horribly...

    Salamence v.s. Heracross
    Salamences Intimidate cuts Heracross's attack.
    Salamence flew up high.

    Trainer withdrew Heracross, trainer sends out Rhydon.
    Salamence uses Fly, its not very effective... (18% damage)

    Newbie withdrew Salamence, newbie sends out Skeptile.
    Rhydon uses Megahorn, its super effective! (100% damage)
    Sceptile fainted.

    Someone with skills would know your probably stupid and predicted a switch, so you end up losing a Pokemon =(. And when you can tell me what idiot maxes out Sp.Def on a Crobat, then you can continue talking, if not then just stfu please and thank you =).
