Well, as a dyed-in-the-wool Charizard fan, I decided to see about coming up with a killer Charizard moveset, so here goes:

For those who don't know, the original "Bellyzard" used to wreak havoc on people's teams in the early days of the Advance Generation. Basically, this Charizard set took advantage of the fact that during those times, a Salac Berry would be activated as soon as the carrier's HP dropped to half its capacity. The move Belly Drum, which Charizard could learn through breeding, cut its HP by half and raised Attack to the maximum, the equivalent of three Swords Dances or more. Combining Belly Drum with a Salac Berry would yield a Charizard with obscenely high Attack and a Speed rating higher even than Ninjask's. The set would include HP Flying and Earthquake as Charizard's physical attacks, with Flamethrower added on to get rid of the occasional Skarmory.

Unfortunately, the rules changed, and now 25% HP is needed to activate the Salac Berry, so Bellyzard's power is mostly gone. Some have decided to use Substitute in place of Flamethrower to cut HP more, but robbing Charizard of a Fire attack has left him to be destroyed by Skarmory.

Now to the point of this new set. Since the physical/special split occurred in D/P, a major comeback may be in order. You see, Charizard's Belly Drum can now be used to power Fire attacks. We need not waste those precious EVs on Special Attack, and as for Natures, we now have a useless stat we can take advantage of.

    Here's the idea:

    Fire Punch
    Belly Drum
    Rock Slide
    Earthquake
    w/Salac Berry
    Nature: Jolly
EVs: 252 Speed, 0 Special Attack, and the rest can go wherever. I'm not particularly good at EVs.

Anyhow, here we get rid of HP Flying since Fire Punch already covers most of what Flying is super-effective against. Rock Slide is added to get rid of pesky Flyers, and EQ is pretty much standard.

As for the Salac Berry problem, I've arranged the Nature and EVs to hopefully avoid trouble until the berry gets activated later on. 328 is a hard speed to match in most cases, so it should do pretty well.

What generation is this for? I've read through it twice and didn't see it.

And for the record, PHazers really screw this set, even more than the previous bellyzard. Besides, lots of poekmon in D/P counter that, eh? So yeah, 3rd or 4th gen?

4th was the idea, as Fire Punch is still a special attack in 3rd gen.

And as long as you don't send Charizard out against a PHazer initially, there shouldn't be much trouble with them. Once Belly Drum goes up, there's not much that a PHazer can do. The only PHazers that I can really see stopping it are Suicune and maybe Blastoise, but that's all. Fire Punch should take care of most stuff that isn't resistant to it.

Unless one switches in :/ You'd be amazed at what some PHazers can survive. Any bulky water > Bellyzard 2.0 anyways, and can stall it to death, like hydro pump swampert (mixpert)

Meh. I'm a bit spectical, but I always am, so never mind me :)

    and weezing...dont forget about weezing.

    and weezing...dont forget about weezing.

As mentioned, about any physical wall-ish pokemon does the job. Rhyinferior...there are many to be named. Sure they'll take a load of damage, but they CAN survive and OHKO it.

    EDIT: "It" being charizard.

The biggest flaw in this is the set is the popularity of Stealth Rock.

yeah and i am the Charizard master!!!!j/k j/k.(Im serious)
Yeah Charizard is fragile and will probably get KOd on the first turn becuase 1.It will loose 1/2 of its HP when using Belly Drum 2.Youll most likely get KOd that same turn with that low HP after using Belly Drum.......Your better of going wiht Choice Specs Charizard.(i think)

EDIT:Yeah sims your right...Damn that stealth rock.IT practically kills a charizard becuase its 4x weaks against rock types. Then youll have enought HP to do the Belly drum(i think).

Not really, Just switch in to something like blissey, which will flee at the sight of belly drum. And 1 and 2 are the same thing :/

Your better of going wiht Choice Specs Charizard.(i think)

Or Dragon dancer, or swords dancer, or mixed sweeper, or....................

That's why we use rapid spinners.

But seriously, if you use chari, it's a given you need a spinner. Of courtse, this wasn't a problem in the far superior ADV metagame.

Yeah, you will need a rapid spinner to back him up if your going to use Charizard.

    That's kinda what I just said :/

But Muhaahahahahahaha! More poeple agree with anti-pop!

Also, any rock move is a road to charizard's grave, so you have to be careful. Rhyinferior will give you some troubles talk about a contradictory statement

Not to mention focus sash users have made bellyzard nearly obsolete...

And there are more counters than just swampert...I only see it working as a VERY late game sweeper, and DDnite is far better at that.

or just with anyone who uses rock moves(Charizard biggest and worst fear)becuase chances are VERY HIGH that you will get KOd with just one of those.Yeah anyways...this will mostlikely not work...your better off with what Anti said...DDancning Charizard or Sworddancing charizard will work better than Bellydruming charizard.

It would seem, though, that a lot of those "walls" you mentioned happen to be weak to ground attacks and are slower than Charizard. A Belly Drummed Earthquake would be pretty painful to them, and while Rhyperior could survive with a little bit of HP, I really doubt that Weezing would be able to take something that strong.

EDIT: Oops, cross-posted with a lot of people.

well im pretty sure it will becuase of its high defense(120 base defense)and pack some HP evs and it will survive...it can either haze you or blow its self up and Chairizard is a gonner...(Weezing)(Ability:levitate)!!!

EDIT:Its ability takes away charizards EQ and no other move that you will have on it will KO it in one hit..

And what does charizard have that beats weexing? Nothing really :/ Keep in mind it has levitate O_O

Ooh, Levitate ability. Should have checked better...

Yeah, I guess I didn't really consider everything. Well, live and learn.

OK, a few comments, plus more suggestions:

I know Weezing has a high Defense, but I'm not entirely sure he could survive a Belly Drummed Fire Punch, especially if Blaze is in play.

However, I can see this sort of thing working with a different Attack-boosting move. Swords Dance and Dragon Dance have both been proposed, but I'm not exactly sure which one. If I keep the 252 Speed EVs and the Jolly nature, though, I think Swords is the best option (no pressing need to boost Speed), plus that's the move I've traditionally relied on.

Any ideas as to where the other EVs ought to go? I've considered 252 Attack, 6 HP, but I don't really want to shortchange myself on the defenses.

Haze FTW. And yeah, chari has pretty poor attack, don't expect miracles...

Really, if you want to use charizard, I'd just use the special sweeper set, since Nite and Mence can be much better physical attackers...
