We all love our OPs and EDs, but sometimes the in-show music is just amazing.

What BGMs do you like the best, whether it be an entire soundtrack from a show or just a single song from that show.

Macross Frontier had some amazing music. May'n (voice of Sheryl while singing) is great, though I'm not a fan of her style of singing. Megumi (voice of Ranka) is just friggen amazing in every song; there wasn't one I didn't like. The series itself was great, too; I stayed away from Macross in the past because I'm not really a fan of mecha, but I plan to go back and watch everything now.

These are some of my favorites:
    Lion
    Northern Cross
    Triangler (fight on stage)
    What 'bout my star?@Formo
    Interstellar Flight
    Diamond Crevasse

    @Superfairy:
Maybe, but I still like them, regardless of how I (mis)interpreted the thread.

Well, twocows, you're talking about Macross Frontier's insert songs, and not Background Music, lol. Even if they -are- great, and they were used as background tunes sometimes, I don't think that's the point of this thread.

That said, I really like Death Note's background music. It's just... epic and climatic. The orchestras and corals give them an eerie feeling that fits the series perfectly. I have to say that Princess Tutu's also really awesome. The variations and arrangements of various famous music, from Beethoven to Chopin, mixed with exciting ballets really do stand out. That's also the kind of feeling I get from Simoun's BGM- classic tunes arranged to fit the setting, giving them a classic-yet-new feel.

And I'm sure many will mention Gurren Lagann's, so I won't even start on that.

Pokemon. (Depending on what version of the show you watch...), It's filled to the brim with orchestrated goodness. If you showed somebody some of the pieces of music from the show, they would probably never guess it's from Pokemon if you didn't tell them already. It's a shame most people will probably never know about the great music in this show, due to it being, well, Pokemon. Shinji Miyazaki does a great job.

Agreed with Superfairy re: Death Note. The orchestral scores are haunting, while the guitar pieces are surprisingly rocking. I have the first two OSTs on my iPod. =3

The track "Startup" from Toradora! was pretty awesome.
And also "Get it by your hands" and "Storywriter" from Eureka Seven.
There are others that I don't know the names of though.

I have to ...um... third the Death Note nomination. Of course, I was slightly obsessed with Oldfield's Tubular Bells beforehand (I grew up listening to it), so that might have something to do with it. Think L's theme plus new age. Compare the track called only "L" with "Sentinel (Tubular Bells II)." You'd have to search them yourselves, since I can't post links yet (I lurk), but the resemblance is uncanny. I also love all of the music in the Miyazaki films I've seen.

Death Note's soundtrack was okay. I'm not sure why but it seemed really repetitive to me and I don't like listening to it anymore. :( Was a nice listen the first time though and a few songs stick out as really good.

Gurren Lagann is the same way. I LOVE a few tracks on it and the rest are only meh. I still listen to it a fair bit though.

I loooove the OST for Higurashi no Naku Koro ni though. A ton of instances of the main theme but I love it so it's all good. The whole thing fits the series so well and it's a fairly relaxing OST to listen to.

I've also always enjoyed what I've heard of the .hack OSTs but I don't have the full disc(s) of any of them so I can't really judge yet. Other honourable mentions go to Witch Hunter Robin, Full Metal Alchemist and probably others haha. Don't have access to my music collection right now so my memory of what I've actually heard is a tad hazy.

Hm. I always thought the BGM for Higurashi was really bad (excluding the theme songs). :/
Maybe it's because the BGM for the sound novels is so incredibly awesome that the anime one feels just... poor.

Oh my gawd, I loved Death Note's BGM! It's really nice and it suits the theme of the anime very well. Also, It's one of the BGM's that you don't notice during the Anime but you know it would suck without it ;-;.

Also, I quite like Naruto's BGM. It well made and it suits the Anime's theme well. The differences is that It's very repititive and you get tired of listening to the same BGM after 100+ episodes.

"Shinkai" by Kayo Konishi & Yukio Kondoo for Elfen Lied and "Unmei no Yoru" by Kenji Kawai for Fate/ Stay Night. Apart from those and some others, I prefer to fill my music library with video game tracks.
I much prefer BGM to a normal song that is simply cropped to a minute and half length (why do Western shows make their own theme songs and anime don't? Honestly I never understood that).

Final Fantasy VII advent children:Advent one winged angel,Advent Aeris theme
    Sailor moon:Luna's theme,Carry on,my only love

    Like several other people in this thread, I think the Death Note soundtrack was wonderful. I've got all three of the anime soundtracks lying around some place or the other. xD;

I also quite like the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni OST (*high fives Ligtning*), without that music the show would be severely lacking, and it's just generally nice to listen to, if you ask me. Oh, and Soul Eater too, I was pretty much obsessed with that soundtrack for a while. xD

    INITIAL D
    SPEEDY SPEED BOY
    NIGHT OF FIRE
    DONT STOP THE MUSIC
    REMEMBER ME
    DOGFIGHT

Anyone ever watch Last Exile? I said this in another topic but the music in that is amazing. You guys should listen to it or even watch the series. Probably hands down the best anime series i've seen in my opinion. And with the soundtrack it has makes it even better.

I don't listen to OSTs too much anymore, but I've always been the biggest fan of Michiru Oushima and Toshihiko Sahashi's works. There are very few others that can really make me feel the music like these two, most anime OSTs would tend to bore me, but most of the works by these two really brought the music to life and added a totally new layer to the show that not many other composers could.

That said, Fullmetal Alchemist, Big O, Zipang, Gundam SEED and Destiny, Black Blood Brothers, and Nabari no Ou all have amazing pieces are usually my favorite anime OSTs.

Hmm, a few come to mind:

A Song of Storm and Fire - Tsubasa Chronicle
This is my absolute favourite. It just made the anime even more epic than it already was. ^_^
    Number One - Bleach
Had a nice ring to it. And like the Storm and Fire, it always played just before something epic happened. XD
    Battle Theme - One Piece
Always plays when Luffy's resolve goes through the roof. This music always puts a smile on my face. =D
    Battle Theme - Pokemon
It starts at 4:34 in the video(I couldn't find it anywhere else, okay!).
