I think you made a good choice for your game... Plat. has much more adventure and experience than HG/SS (not that it isn't a good game, because it is freaking amazing)

Also, I just have to say, that every time I read the title to this post, I hear Spongebob singing his 'best day ever' song (;
 
Grats on getting Platinum! It's a good choice if your just starting out with Pokemon on the DS. Once you get the hang of that, you will love Heart Gold and Soul Silver even more :) Not that Platinum is a bad game, it's just, you won't notice all the cool features they added in HGSS if you don't play Diamond/Pearl/Platinum first ;)
 
Aww man. You shoulda picked up Heart Gold. But Platinum is good. It sure is better than Diamond and Pearl
 
I have a older brother a little older then your sister does the same thing.
