Which Pokemon remake did you find the most enjoyable? Think about Pokemon, locations, legendaries, etc.

Personally, I preferred HG/SS as remakes more than I did FR/LG, so between the two, they'd get my vote. I haven't played enough of Alpha Sapphire yet to give it a fair judgement (I've only just gotten to Rustboro), but I played Sapphire more than any other Pokemon game to date, so I've still got high hopes for it.

And since this is a poll about the Pokemon games rather than the series as a whole, I'm going to move this thread over to Pokemon Gaming Central for you.

    MOVED.

I didn't like any of the remakes too much for the soul reason of retconning rather than expanding. the remakes are considered Gen 3 and 4, and 6. how confusing is that?

I liked HG/SS more then FR/LG one of the reasons is that I got leafgreen when I was 4 (I was born in 2000) I got to the rock gym before giving up. (Luckily a year later my dad played it and finished it I was surprised)

Definitely HG/SS with FR/LG literally so close behind.

HG/SS only has wireless and Wi-fi, and the phys and spec. split over FR/LG.

FR/LG added 7 new islands, stronger elite four rematches, trainer tower, and yeah it's great. Because while breeding still existed, it didn't rely solely on just that.
HG/SS added two new routes, it had the BF (even though it was copy and pasted from Platinum :P), GB sounds, new events, more backstory on Giovanni and Silver, following Pokemon, almost every legendary until that point in time was able to be captured in a UNIQUE map none of this random hoop that warps you into battle, ACTUAL MAPS with effort put into them.

OR/AS is bitterly disappointing and follows (in my opinion) the recent trend of Generation VI.

    oh well.

Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are amazing remakes. The awesome music, the cool camera angles, more pokemon in the overworld, faster surfing and diving mechanics, catching so many legendaries, the awesome music again, the wonderful detailed expressions on character's faces. I love it a lot. It is a great remake to my favorite Pokemon game, Sapphire.

OR/AS aren't retcons. Saying anymore than that would be going into spoiler territory, though.

Anyway, I'm loving OR/AS, but I've got to go with HG/SS- kind of hard to beat the sheer amount of content it had. OR/AS tried, but failed. FR/LG are basically the exact same games as the originals with a new coat of paint and the addition of a relatively small new area to explore, which is part of the reason they aren't just my least favorite remakes, they're my least favorite in the series (although admittidly FireRed was the only game I had to play for a long period of time so it may be that I burned myself out on it, too).

If you play the original in comparison to the remakes, they expand the story, which I personally dont mond but with each remake they try to modernize the design which is unnecessary. Another thing is part of the expansion is adding current gen Pokémon.

Why even divided by generations if theres going to be remakes falling in the same generation? If the spoiler is alternate universe, they should split the remakes into a separate generation. Such as generation A B and C

How did it fail? I'm curious.

Off the top of my head:

-The old "Johto games have two regions" argument, which that particular concept can't be held against OR/AS but it's still more content. At the very least they could have added in new areas of a decent size for OR/AS, which they tried to do with the Battle Resort, the Mirage Spots, and the Secret Islands, but those were all incredibly small.
-OR/AS Safari Zone is terrible in comparison to HG/SS's in terms of available Pokemon and didn't improve at all from the originals in that aspect, either.
-Lack of an actual Battle Frontier.
-As far as I've seen, OR/AS doesn't have Gym Leader rematches.

The first issue aside, Game Freak had addressed everything else in Emerald and could have easily carried those elements over to these remakes, but didn't despite HG/SS having Crystal elements. You could probably argue that these are Ruby and Sapphire remakes, but sticking too close to the originals was a major problem FR/LG had, and again, it's not like being Gold and Silver remakes stopped them from adding in parts of Crystal to HG/SS.

Don't get me wrong, though, I'm not saying that not having these things makes OR/AS terrible, but they could have very easily been so much better.

I.dont know about any of you. But if it follows closer to the original thats a plus. So long as they dont add a plot element that screws up the sequels.

Delta Episode adds story elements from Emerald though. Battling with Steven against Team Aqua/Magma in the Space Center, catching Rayquaza on top of Spear Pillar, battling and catching Deoxys like in the FR/LG/Emerald Birth Island event.

Edit: Oh and you can rematch Gym Leaders, just look in the AreaNav to check if they are available for another battle.

But why bother with remakes then if they're just the exact same game with modern graphics (and mechanics? If I wanted to play the exact same thing I'd just go and play the original. I'm not saying that the entire game needs to be super-drastically different from the originals, but I personally want remakes to have something more than the originals, to have something that makes them unique. Otherwise I feel like I wasted my money a bit.

Honestly graphics is basically the one and only thing I care about in a remake. The second is how faithful it is to even feel like a remake. Do I want a new experience? Perhaps, but not a completely new on or a very butchered one. Otherwise, make a new game. Keep in mind Pokemon red and blue were released barely compatible with color. A faithful Pokemon red and blue for GBA would've been more than enough. Especially since most of what was needed was graphics, removing glitches, and better dialogue.

And I like additions and some expansions...but at the same time I still want a remake. I dont want any of the additions to intrude on the original design which I felt all the remakes have done.

Personally, I would like a Pokemon "Gold Fire and Silver Water" since Kanto and Johto are right next to eachother a game with both combined together would be best. Perhaps a tiny interlude. I didnt care for additional story. I especially didnt like generations combining.

First, for me, would definitely have to be Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. I have always found Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald to be very intriguing; in my eyes, all their things were very different and unique, so to speak. Their locations did have a theme going, which would be tropical, but they also had something interesting set to themselves for distinction (Slateport City had Slateport Market, for example, with Lilycove having Department Store).

Not only their locations were good, but their music were quite fun to listen as well. I believe they were pretty successful at making us feel what they were aiming for; some would be saddening, some inspiring, others are mysterious, and so forth. Events were engaging, too; I understand I can't speak for others, but I found their story events to make me feel as if I were actually a part of them.

With all this said, going through all of this again with additional features, advanced graphics and sound, etc. is much enjoyable of an experience, at least in my eyes. I haven't completed the game yet, plot-wise, but am almost there; currently, I am up to third member of Elite Four.

    I love all the Remakes:
FR/LF: Awesome games.I play them on my gba emulator on my pc all the time :)
HG/SS: I've only ever played it once(all the way through) but it was AWESOME :D
OR/AS: I really find it enjoyable and i find the DexNav really fun. yet again, Awesome :)

anyway. I have to pick one so i have to pick HS/SS :)
The others are great but i love these games just a tad bit more.

I've forgot to state this, but second set of favorite remakes, for me, are definitely HeartGold and SoulSilver.

I have loved Gold, Silver, and Crystal ever since I've gotten chance to try the games out; places were wonderful to explore, events were engaging, music were nice, and on top of it all, these games also had day and night system, which really added to the touch. Also, GSC were the only games back then to have two regions, which certainly made them stand out.

Being able to go through all of this again with current-day mechanics was definitely enjoyable, if you ask me. I've played both version of games; one was physical copy, and another was digital (which was stored into my flash-cart). Both times were equally as fun to play.

    HGSS, of course.

FRLG was ehhhh like the rest of 3rd gen. It didn't even have time of day. You couldn't evolve Pokémon into Johto evolutions before completing the game.

Haven't played ORAS but from what I've seen it doesn't top HGSS in terms of features. At least they added the Moss Rock and Icy Rock for Eevee, which HGSS didn't have.

Going with ORAS. It is a major step up compared to the original games with 3D environments and great enhanced music, now with wireless capabilities and the return of the ultimate secret bases. I just realised you can even fly to routes now... Holy.

Love HGSS too because of the super rich game content (a whole other region + battle frontier is already good enough, but there's more), but I don't seem to enjoy it as much as other games. Game Freak tried to incorporate some story to the games, but it seems... broken. One moment fighting gyms, one moment rocket tower gets taken, another moment to awaken Lugia/Ho-Oh. To me, it doesn't fit very well.

Didn't play FRLG so nothing to say here.

Edit: Oh and you can rematch Gym Leaders, just look in the AreaNav to check if they are available for another battle.

I have tried AreaNav and none of them seem to want a rematch. Is it a postgame thing?

They do show up in the AreaNav, but as far as I (or anyone else, since I haven't seen anyone say anything about rematching them themselves) the data for them shows up, but you can't actually rematch them, similar to how they showed up in the original's Trainers Eyes but aren't rematchable.
