Suggestion: Blocking people

I suggest you read over the original post again, Lakelady. I think you missed the point.

Ok, let me put it this way.
The person I want to ignore me I've been able to block on msn, block on deviantART and stop them VM/PMing me here. The only way they can contact me over the whole internet is through my thread. It should be changed so you can restrict ignored people from posting on them. Viewing them is fine though.

If deviantART, the 126th most popular website in the world, has decided to implement this feature on their forums, it's obviously a good idea. So why can't PokeCommunity?

Because, per se, threads don't belong to their owners in that way. I mean, I post a poll asking about your favourite food, and then someone is not allowed to post there because I have blocked them? I think that just ignoring their posts just works fine- after all, if you can't see their posts, it doesn't matter whatever he writes on them.

I'd support creating a specific feature that removes any trace of them from your screen, but never as a default, and I'd never support freely allowing all members to ban other members from posting anywhere.

And is someone is actually harrassing you everywhere you go, you should report it to the staff. It's a serious matter.

Restrict them from posting content in your threads? Now that I wouldn't be all too happy with. I think members should be able to post anywhere on the community when it's within the rules without having to worry about someone blocking them because of whatever reason. Like Went said, you're basically banning them from posting in a thread. You posting a thread doesn't make it yours.

Hiding the post itself, opposed to showing a link where you can view it, is all I think is needed. You don't know they posted, they get a chance to share their opinion, and all's fair.

Silencing a voice for any reason is not something I'm too fond with.

This being a discussion board, everyone is entitle to their opinion. Everyone is entitled to sharing their opinions respectfully. Everyone is entitled to disagreeing with said opinion. It wouldn't be a discussion board without that, and hushing someone just because you have a problem (so long as it isn't a serious one, like harassment [and I'm not just talking about constantly bothering you; I'm talking about making you uncomfortable and scared for your personal safety to be here]) with them is childish and immature.

But this being something that happens on deviantART plays little to no bearing or importance in what happens here, so I don't see why you're saying that.

"PokéCommunity is a nice place and if someone is not, the person is sorted out anyway?"

I think what if you want to block someone out of your life that's fine.
But we don't need it implement this feature, as we are not dA. What you're saying is, just because a popular site that it way different from us uses the feature, it's automatically a good idea for a different site? dA is the 126th most popular site, well of course they're will be a huge amount of mean and horrid people. Who you will want to block, but that's a huge site, PokéCommunity cannot compare to that in number.

We do not need this feature.
