So I've noticed a bundle of news sites pop up lately, and a lot of news overall.

I don't have the time to keep up with it all, with my job and school and everything.

So I'm asking if I should even bother. Would anyone still use it/help update it, or is it a lost cause?

I say yes bring it back. It basically spawned all these new ones that pop up. I could help update it. Now that I don't have site that is high maintenance.

After browsing around some, and finding that I've been completely replaced, including the ways I was unique, I've given up.

Go ahead Blaze and brag. I give up and you can claim victory.

    Go and cheer somewhere.

    Why would I brag?

I do wish you did continue PocketNews, seeing as the "new news sites" are not be a replica of PN. I know of one for example, which was created for and only for the purpose of news feeds redistribution.

People came to PN not just for the news, but for the local and personal feel of it. I do hope you reconsider.

In order to bring it back we'd need to be sure there would be people who wanted to update it. Greg has his job and study now, and I have uni, so neither of us has time to keep it up to date. We'd want to be certain that people would come and update us, and not go off to other news sites and update them instead, abandoning us.

I'd be glad to. I used to help now again back on PN, and I kinda resent all these new sites copying a brilliant idea. And plus the fact that PN had a better service imo. Although to be honest... there was barely enough people activly updating, mainly JK, JA sometimes and Abhishek towards the end... I just don't think that experienced people would be willing to do their websites and update that. Toooooooo much work

It's pretty hard running a site, even harder for a news site since you have to be around most of the time to get everything covered. But you can't really run a site if your depending on your staff all the time to do everything. It's not a good way to get your staff motivated with the owner's don't do anything.

Why don'y you make one of them softwares so people can register and use the news, then the webmasters off other sites can contribute news to it and the software on there site.

I would be happy to do that, I would check everyday for more released news for Pokemon games, TCG ETC.
PN was very similar to that.
You could register and contribute as well as use the news on your own site.
There were even translations of the news.

Well, I'd like to see the site return.
Since I'm not really a person who's up-to-date, I couldn't really help with posting news, but if you need translators (like you used to), I'd be happy to help^^

PN is back under the name PokePress - there should be a showcase thread about it somewhere (pokepress.net). Thanks for the encouragement, and you can sign up to post now.

Do you mean that we should have some kind of system like PokeFeeds where news can be integrated with that from PP? We aren't fans of remotely hosted news since if the remote server goes down you can lose all your news. I can probably write a system to integrate stuff on your server with PP stuff, but I don't have any time until summer in the southern hemisphere. -_- I consider the best solution to use the PP RSS feed, output your own news to RSS and then use an aggregator to combine the two feeds. This way you can add many feeds to the page. :)

With Feeds your news won't be instantly loss o_O and since we have numerous servers that share Feeds hosting, we can prevent that from ever happening.

Plus to do all that work with Feeds is just way too confusing and just too much work ;< besides the chances of a site like PN getting hacked via CuteNews is way more common and possible~

Which is why I make back-ups.

I much prefer the open system to the closed system.

I prefer open systems usually for most things, however I prefer closed systems for Websites. I mean PocketNews was hacked too often, and once the Latin America Defacers find PP will probably hack that too.

Worst thing is, there is nothing you can do~

PocketNews was hacked because of an upload script that was given to me... which didn't have the right protection it should have had.

    o_O

CuteNews itself isn't secure, Pokemon 706 had the latest version and was easily hacked. Thats why when I decided to take my project Orbit News into development I made sure I had my own News System.

I actually have two made, I have a older one which Imakuni? actually developed/created for me =]

I use an old version of CuteNews which has yet to fail me.

I see no reason why people have to continually say it's crappy.
