I had four braces put on my top teeth when I was nine years old. I eventually got them taken off, got a retainer, then got a full set put in, and didn't get it taken off until I was fifteen. I kid you not. Wore a retainer for awhile, then just stopped wearing it. The bottom one was cemented into my mouth, and I still have it to this day.
During that time, I had a good amount of teeth removed (I can think of at least two permanent ones that are gone), my upper jaw expanded twice, wore two different kinds of headgear (one over the back of my head at night, and then one that'd go over my face I wore whenever I was home), and had one of my front teeth ground down just a bit to match the other front tooth.
Yeah... I had a fair share of orthodontic work. But, my teeth are in good shape now. Good thing my mom was in the military, because god knows how much this cost. I know in the end they were paying some of it out of pocket. x_x;
