Naruto + Kenshin + bishounen = Brave 10

Enjoyable first episode was enjoyable even if it was nothing new.

I'm kind of a male rekijou, this sounds like the kind of thing I'll love. Impressions coming as soon as I watch it!

EDIT: aaaaaaaaaand I watched it. This is the kind of show that I wouldn't have given a second glance a few years ago but I'll watch due to the lack of action shows these days. Some completely disorganized thoughts:

Spoiler:

- I haven't kept up with Naruto for years, but the main character bears quite the resemblance to The Sauce to me. Fortunately, he bears no resemblance in personality.

- Isanami is best new female character of the season so far (I'm not counting a certain Symphogear character for spoilery reasons), if only for her design. I like the blue and white miko costume, I like detached sleeves, I like ice blue hair, and she has the cute shoujo face that girls in bishounen anime often have. Also she can disintegrate stuff.

- Sanada Yukimura's design may not be as interesting and flamboyant as what we see in stuff like Sengoku Basara and Samurai Warriors, but it's nice to see a more mature version of Yukimura. Basara Yukimura makes for cool action, but he's also a complete boy scout. Looks like his rival will be Tokugawa instead of Date in this series.

- Basilisk left a big impression on me as an anime noob years ago so I look forward to lots of Koga vs. Iga stuff and freakish powers. One of the characters in the preview looked kind of like the female ninja from Basilisk who could sex people to death, heh.

- OP and ED were waaaaay boring and low budget, I don't think that the OP could have been sung with less enthusiasm, which ended up being funny in its own way.

- feather-dreds dude in the OP is the coolest looking of the bunch.

Best new character of the season eh? I guess she's less annoying than the shounen female character that refuses to be protected.......only to be protected 10 minutes later. She sort of reminded me of Fuu from Champloo.

Opening and ending, at least the opening song wasn't too bad.

Best new female, though there hasn't exactly been a particularly competitive field to choose from. Best new character overall is probably....uhh......actually, somehow everything I'm watching has almost entirely female casts so I guess Isanami still stands, at least until I watch Ano Natsu probably. You're right, she kind of reminds me of Fuu.

Kind of telling that every new character is so lacking in any kind of discernible personality this season that I had to resort to character design =/ Maybe Kaiki Deishu in Nise will come through and at least be an awesome conversationalist.

EXPLODING SNAKES!

A pretty sub-par episode. Forget everything I said about Isanami last week, it's pretty certain now that she exists only to give Saizou something to constantly protect. The fights were dull, Yukimura's new minions are so bland that they probably fail to even be fujoshi bait, and.......I honestly can't find much else to say about the episode.

One of the most useless translator notes ever? I feel like this is something that would have been circulating the internet for years alongside "people die when they are killed", "keikaku means plan", and others, but no. This is a subtitle from 2012.

I don't even.

Also, forest boy apparently cured himself of snake venom off-screen and unexplained to the audience. Saizou had pretty much every artery in his body slashed in one motion by Hattori Hanzo and walked it off with the power of TAISETSU NA HITO GA MAMORITAI or however you would say that cliche of cliches. These dudes be resilient.

The less blood in your body and the more hits you take the more "nakama" protecting power you gain, something I have learnt from my cartoons. This show is silly but I like it.

Sasuke was poisoned, practically dead, afterward, killed the large-boob'd-snake-injecting women. Maybe, since the forest is his territory, he did something to cure the poison, like command the plants to search a cure for him? :-O Possible.
