It's all over Twitter now and also confirmed by Serebii.

Ditto can now be caught in the wild in Pokémon GO.

Players have confirmed that Ditto can appear as most common Pokémon in the overworld, such as Pidgey, Rattata, Magikarp, Venonat, Nidoran, amongst others. You won't know it's Ditto until you capture the Pokémon, after which the message will state "Oh?" instead of the usual "Gotcha!"

I got it as well, i caught one of those pigeons.

The screen turned pink, i got some transformation animation, and then got ditto registered to the pokedex.

How rare are they, and what do you do with them? I heared that its a pokemon with special functions when it comes to evolving or breeding.

It looks like for Gym battles, Ditto is going to be fairly niche and not the most competitive.

It will transform into the first Pokémon it faces and will have its CP scaled up according to the Ditto's level. However, Ditto will retain its base stats, which aren't exactly phenomenal. This is pretty much identical to how Ditto behaves in battle in the core series games.

So you can turn it into magicarp and hit it with a solar beam exeggutor?

    Worst. Arena. Defender. Ever.

It may be useful for powering up gyms, you can Carp it and then peck it to death with very small pidgeys that you just send away afterwards, for up to 1000 points each time you do it.

Am i getting this right, does it work that way?

Pretty much, though I don't know if Ditto's CP will scale down if you're turning it into a Magikarp.

Manipulating Ditto's transformation to your advantage is something that can be done in the core series games, too, so I'm actually kind of happy GO is sticking true to Ditto's gimmicks.

I thought this was just a gossip and now it's really true. I read from many forums that it is really possible to get Ditto. Although I haven't heard it from the publishers. I want to know if you can get this in my region here in Panama.

It seems global, i know that i and several others caught it in Germany, and someone on the forum caught one in Florida, USA.

I MUST FIND ONE. I went searching for a bit yesterday but no luck. Oof.
    All the luck.

I was out searching in the city for about three hours and had no luck.

Lo and behold I come back home to my quiet rural neighborhood and manage to catch two of them within 20 minutes.

It's going to suck if I find a rare Pokémon I can't usually find it turns out to be a Ditto.

Will he be in permanently or just Thanksgiving event? Bit of a noob Q but I only just found out as over past couple days couldn't even load up the game

The special event is double XP and double stardust.

But i think the new pokemon has been added permanently, otherwise it would be unfair for new players. If you missed out on an event, you always can make up for it by playing more later on.

I put my Ditto in a gym, it is funny watching him transform into whatever he is battling. My Ditto is a wimp with CP 116, what is the max CP for Ditto?

Thanks, didn't find one today but will try again going forward, 30 pidgeys a load of rattatas & nothing

    Read somewhere that its 700ish

I disbelieved this initially when my roommate told me that Ditto was released... 30sec later she caught a Pidgey, and it turned into a Ditto.

Then my other roommate and I caught the same Pidgey, and it also turned into a Ditto.

Thus, whether a Pokemon is a Ditto or not is generated at the Pokemon spawn and not upon catch. This can be useful if you catch one and want to alert your nearby friends of its appearance in the neighbourhood :)

It's been weeks since Ditto was released and I have yet to catch one. I was even in downtown Houston (which I hoped I would catch it), but nothing.

Hopefully soon I will catch one!

Ditto the above (pun intended). Still nothing, and I live in a very urban area. Then again I've been so busy I've hardly had chances to play, especially since I ran out of high-speed data for the month. ;x Ditto come to me!
This is just anecdotal, so don't take it as fact.

I haven't caught a single Ditto in the city (I work in Manhattan). I've caught six lifetime already and all six have been right outside my suburban home.
