So, a friend of mine traded me a Ditto with perfect IVs. Does this mean that when I breed with it, all of its offspring will have perfect IVs as well? I ask this because I've forgotten much of what I've known about breeding; I stopped playing in early 2014 and have returned.

Unfortunately no. Normally when breeding the game will pass down 3 of the 12 IVs between the parents, with the rest being random. Having one of them hold the Destiny Knot will change that to 5. To have offspring with good IVs both parents need to have good IVs as well. With a 6 perfect IV Ditto you can start breeding your way up to a good IV parent and then use that plus the Ditto to start pumping out 5 (or even 6) IV babies.

As of 6th gen anyway. If you're breeding in Gen 5 or earlier it works differently.

So, I'm assuming that there's no way to know which IV got the short end of the stick when using Destiny Knot?

    This should help.

I don't know if it's a different saying in X/Y but in my AS game if any of your IVs are 31 he'll say something about them being outstanding and list the stats that are 31. Any he misses out could be anything.
