I had some ideas for a new Pokemon game and needed a place to discuss them. Here is a list of features and mechanics that it would include.

    Pokemon Game Ideas
    Main Features:
    3D Models/ 3D Environments.

    Customizable Avatars.

    Walking Pokemon.
(Optional. Maybe add some mini-games you can play with your walking Pokemon – like fetch.)

    Pokemon Tournament Levels.
Multiple Areas of the game that act like real tournaments. There would be a lot of fanfare and provide a platform for story segments.

    More Type Catching Events.
Catching contests winners based on Species first, and IV second to decide which Pokemon is "Bigger".

    Multiple Regions.
Classic Regions return, new Region(s) are added. See The Region Section for more Info.
    Game play Features:
    Badges:

Gym badges level-cap all of your Pokemon. When you beat a Gym Leader, that badge raises your level cap to the next appropriate level.

    Gym Battle Restrictions

If a Gym Leader uses 3 Pokemon, you can only choose 3 Pokemon. Maybe restrict healing items in Gym Battles too. Maybe. (might be too much.)
    Multiple Region Mechanics:
    Pokemon License

When you move to a new region after the first, you need to catch a new team of Pokemon. You can't use high level Pokemon in the second region without the correct Gym Badge from that Region. The Difficulty curve in the second region is much steeper. It gets harder faster. As you collect Gym Badges in the new region, you can access your old Pokemon if they are the right level.

    Region Levels and Difficulty

All classic regions are Levels 1-60. Special Regions could be Level 70-90. Those regions would be a very special extra challenge.

I would love to see the 3DS act like a duel disk and have 1 on 1 AR matches anywhere

seems like you got most of this from the anime, but even though i guess that would be a great idea

I would like if they either keep the 2d sprites but make them not pixelated(so anime style) or have stadium like graphics after all it is supposed to support n64 graphics.

I would really love a fully 3d overworld(like final fantasy VIII for example and not the mishmash of 2d/3d in style.

Actually, the 3DS surpasses the N64, PS2 and such. (as far as I know). The Fact that Pokemon games refuse to update their image is absurd. Pokemon used to go out of its way to incorporate ALL of the features of the Gameboy system it was on, but the graphics haven't improved by the same degree.

Voice Acting - Hire back some Classic Voices from the Anime to record voices for important characters like villains, rivals, and Professors. Imagine the real Professor Oak reading the introduction to a new Pokemon Adventure! And then asking if you are a Boy or a Girl?!

Well that's one feature that make Pokemon "Pokemon" - it's absurd out of date semi 2d-3d images.

Voice acting would be good, though it would cause a lot of space for a regular Rom cartridge, if every main storyline voice would be animated.

If the DS could do voice acting, then the 3DS should do it with ease.

In fact there already is voiced 3DS games...

If there's going to be voice acting, I'd rather it not be from anyone connected to the anime, at least not the main cast. If I had to hear Ash's voice in my game I think I'd pull my hair out and then I'd sell the game back, walking into GameStop completely bald to do it.

Not a fan of the level cap thing either, unless it would be fairly generous... at least 10-15 levels higher than the Gym Leader. I don't want to have to face them at the same level when I'm used to marching in there 10 levels ahead and wiping the floor with them. Another deal breaker would be having to start over in a new region. There's no reason to put two regions on one cartridge if you can't keep your team in both. If that's the case, just make them two separate games so consumers aren't fooled. Any Pokemon game committing these two deadly sins would immediately earn a return trip to the store where I bought them.

Custom trainer designs would be awesome, however, and I do like the tournament idea. As for 3-D styling... we'll have to see how well they look, though personally I'm more of a fan of classic 2-D.

If its VA I would not mind Funimation. Considering a few of the VA have been from Funi does make it possible since a game would not make them come back weekly since they could record all at once. Just think Vic as N. XD

    1. Good point. not all of the anime VA were that good, and VA has come a long way since the 90's. There are Better V Actors now.

    2. RotflStomping the only Bosses in the game is what I want to prevent. Some people like beating the boss like that, but I want a challenge from every boss I encounter. Maybe if the bosses were harder the player would catch and use more than 6 pokemon out of the 150-649 available.

    3. Adding multiple regions to a game is hard. I don't know a proper way to do it yet. A lot of people here say that multiple regions would be awesome, but honestly it would be easier to make one MEGA-Region than two have 2 separate regions. (people thing GS was so great for having 2 regions when in reality the second region was just 8 boss battles in a row and nothing more. even the wild Pokemon were the wrong levels for that part of the game. multiple regions really isn't all it is cracked up to be in the first place.)

Do you (anyone) thing one Mega-Region would be better game design than Multiple regions?

If they were going to add every region to a game they would be forced to raise the level cap to 150~200. If not your party would reach the cap of 100 well before finishing all of the regions, so battles come down to 1~2hit KOs, even if fighting other capped Pokemon if you get a super effective hit.

And by raising the cap they would need to add more skills to every Pokemon's skill set, or else there isn't much to be gotten out of continuing on past 100.
It's either that or drastically increase the amount of EXP needed to level up at all levels, or drastically decrease the amount of EXP you ever get from battles.

I'm strongly against adding VAs to Pokemon as well, unless it's another Stadium series game. VAs wouldn't go well with a traditional Pokemon handheld game. It would be voices coming from tiny sprites, unless those little speech boxes with the characters' faces comes up or something, which is just clutter on the screen.

I would actually prefer a mega region (maybe bucking trend and including 10 or even 12 gym leaders) where the Elite Four top out around Lv85-90, with the uber boss character at Lv95 or even 100. I think that would be good motivation for more people to get their teams up to 100, and would allow for more story to be incorporated. Of course, this doesn't leave much room for a post-game but on the other hand, players can skip right to the Battle Tower/Subway/Frontier without much additional training.

And please, let's have a Pokemon game where all the loose ends are tied. Let's have the boss of whatever evil team actually get arrested and face justice, and let's have our character keep the title of Champion once they topple the Elite Four. And have people in game recognize your character as such.

This sounds instresting and I would like to see this in a game.

    Multiple Regions.
Classic Regions return, new Region(s) are added. See The Region Section for more Info.

This could maybe altered to say, visit cities/towns of specific regions i.e Saffron City of Kanto, Lilycove City of Hoenn etc.

I like all of the ideas so far except for the voice acting. Pokemon games in the past have had a reputation of using the same sprite over and over. I just don't want that to happen with voices because then it would get really annoying... Just sayin.

Here is a list of Gyms. The idea is that each new Gym would introduce a new element to the game like fishing, or mining fossils (like gen4 minigame) and you would have to learn about each element before going to the Gym.

For Example, you would get a fishing rod and be required to win a fishing contest before going to the Water Type Gym.

    Trainer's School - Basic Info/ catching/ battle/ [Lv. 5]

1.) Trio Gym - Type Effectiveness [Lv. 10 Boss] (This would not be a copy of Gen5's Trio Gym, but same idea.)
    2.) Poison Gym - Berries/ Status Conditions [Lv.20 Boss]
3.) Water Gym - Fishing [Lv. 30 Boss]
    4. ) Ground Gym - Mining [Lv. 40 Boss]
    5.) Electric Gym - [Lv. 45 Boss]
    6.) Ghost Gym - [Lv. 50 Boss]
    7.) Grass Gym - [Lv. 55 Boss]
8.) Steel Gym [Lv. 60 Boss]
***Elite Four Lv. 60-65 -- 4 pokemon of one type and 2 pokemon to cover weaknesses.
***Champion Lv. 70 -- Various Team (Maybe have some random Pokemon so it is a little different each time you battle him. For example he could have 6 pokemon from a pool of 10, so it would be a slightly different line-up each time.)
