The Bug Catching Contest was a contest in the Johto region which is held on Tuesday, Thursdays and Saturdays. In it, you capture a Bug-type Pokemon that is judged. The winner gets a prize that's usually rare, and hard to come by otherwise. The first prize is a Sun Stone, or other evolutionary stones. Pokemon in the Bug Catching Contest also tend to be Pokemon you can only catch there, such as wild Scyther and Pinsir. HeartGold and SoulSilver added some later generation Pokemon to the contest after you get the National Pokedex, as well, but the contest plays pretty much the same ways as it did in Generation II.

I've won a lot of times, and honestly, considering the prizes, it's worth it. I don't like having to buy Evolutionary Stones, tbh.
