6th Gen But giving the name "PEKACHU" to a PIKACHU? It seems pointless.

I wanted to name my Dedenne "Penelope" after the cute hamster in Hamtaro, but it got censored ;; I also love how Viola is censored when there's a Gym Leader with that very name XD

Anyway, I like the idea of being able to remove/hide the nickname of a traded Pokemon. Like others have said, it resolves inappropriate nicknames. I personally find it odd to receive a nicknamed Pokemon, as often the Pokemon's only purpose will be to be bred or traded via Wonder Trade or something, and I never nickname Pokemon I plan to use for those sole reasons (unless it's a Pokemon I like or one of my main team members), so.

I also had that issue with Viola. I guess it's because in Spanish it means rape...kind of felt strange once realizing that I named my Pokemon that considering I should've known...

However the one I still don't get is why they censored my Kyogre's name (Kairi) when transferring it to Pokemon back, yet the game (Y) doesn't censor the name. That was the time I was most angry at the censor...gah. Someone please tell me if there's a language it's a bad name...

If there's one change I'd like to see, it'd be to simply remove the nickname of a traded Pokemon.

I'm fine with not being able to nickname them whatever you want, but if there's a nickname you really hate, you should be able to ask the game just refer to that Pokemon by its species, completely removing the nickname.

always agreed with this, theyre alot people who send really bad nicknames and your are just stuck with it

But "Viola" and "Penelope"? I don't see how that's remotely inappropriate, they're actual names, and they don't even have hidden words in them, unless I'm missing something completely.

Penelope? Elope? Maybe they want to discourage kids from running away from home and getting married :pink_giggle:

Viola contains viol which is a French word meaning "rape". Penelope on the other hand, contains the word pene which means "penis" in Italian. I'd imagine how offensive it would have been to those in said countries, but then again the censor is really crazy at times.

Kinda silly to think such as Viola and Penelope trigger the censors just because there are some vulgar words in the name FROM another language. Yes you can still consider that if your in the same language but tbh

The censorship is a little wack and I wish they would fix it in ORAS.

If anything, they should've been able to make it so that those names were only censored when the player chose the language in which they were foul. In English, Game Freak looks silly to have made 'Penelope' censored, as it's common in America. People with that name must feel odd when playing X and Y.
