So, I made this thread because I would like to buy some manga. (Obviously)
But, I have a question, what price is a fair price? Do you own any manga? How much did you pay for them? Where do you buy them at? Is it worth it?

Well, I never bought a manga before, because I read them online, though it can be a little painful to the eyes. I don't know exactly the price of a manga, but my friend owns a large collection and he seems to be enjoying them. So, yea it might be worth it. As to where you can buy them, any DVD/anime store might have them. In my area, there are like 15 DVD stores that sell manga.

I can order it to my local library so i don't really have to buy it.

But an i would say an issue would cost between £5 and £10. It's fair if it's something you actually wan't to own. I would also suggest checking eBay as there are bound to be some people selling collections or are powersellers selling for cheap.

The thing is, there are no "Anime" stores where I live. Just normal stores, like Borders for example. But, I would like to know if there are other stores that sell them.

Yes, check E-bay or amazon or whatever. They usually have reasonable prices and fast shipping. Or try this, if you can handle reading manga on your PC (or print them): Manga Fox or Manga Reader. They are good and update their site regularly.

Printing cost even more money, and I can't buy from online stores D:

The only manga that I own are a couple of copies of Nausicaa.
I paid £2 an issue which I thought was very, very fair. That was legit from Amazon.

Edit - Wait, I missed you saying you can't buy from an online store. Well the only place that I know in my area that sells manga is Forbidden Planet, but that may just be a UK store

Yea it is. Thanks anyways tho.

i don't know where you come from (USA, i presume?)
but i can't name any stores as i'm most definitely not from the same place.

well for starters, you can always try and ask your local bookstore/library if they could order manga for you, or maybe if they know any stores that do sell manga.
i guess there's a risk of them charging more for ordering it though.. ? i'm not sure, i've never done that before.

if all else fails, try the internet!
not for sales as you can't do that but to look for nearby stores.
i've to go to the next town to buy manga too, but i don't mind.

as for prices, a regular manga is €8.99 here.. that's bought in a regular store obviously.
i just noticed it says $9.99 USA on this SA manga though. iono.

~that'll be all, hope i helped out somewhat .

Here in the UK, there's a popular bookshop called Waterstones which I go to every month to stock up on books and manga. The manga sell for about £6-£8 each and, in the winter, there are always deals where you buy three and pay for two.

I find that manga and anime are quite popular here in the UK. The manga are sold in most bookshops while the anime is sold in most DVD shops. There is even a shop in Piccadily Circus, London where they only sell manga, anime and other merchandise.

I have a few volumes from a few different manga series, and I bought most of them in Waterstones (a UK bookstore, like Borders) for about £6 a piece. It can start to add up though, given that most series are at least 12 books, with the bigger, more popular series going a lot higher.
I recommend you read at least the first chapter of a manga online, then buy it as it's a waste if you find out you don't like it after :/
So yeah, most bookstores should have a manga section (though they can be limited) but also places where you might buy other geeky stuff - I just call them geek shops, I don't know what their official name is - should sell them. For a rough pricing guide - the price of a small-medium paperback book is about average I think.

In the United States, a brand new manga costs $10 (at least that's how much it costs at an anime store I went to and it eventually went out of business anyway). The store also had used manga for sale and they were $4 each which is pretty cheap. I'm not sure if prices can get any higher or lower than that around here, but I do know that when I went to an anime expo in Long Beach a few years ago, a lot of collectors were selling cheap manga ranging from around $2-$5. Of course, some of these manga were brand new too.

    I wished I lived there :o
They cost around 7-10 dollars here depending on how many pages.

I live in the U.S. btw.

I buy my manga from a place called Mike's Reading Spot. It's a somehow small cafe/library under my house and it sells manga/magazines/books. Each cost around $8 and if you buy 3 issues, you get one free.

Just buy manga from the borders store online to get free shipping :P

Well it was free shipping for me at least(Aussie Border's website)

The problem is, I can't buy anything from online D:

I buy mine mostly from Barnes & Noble and Borders, usually anywhere from $7.99-$12.99 a volume, depending on the size, publisher, and the series. If you're lucky enough to be able to attend an anime convention, some of the sellers in the Dealer's Rooms might be selling used copies for less than that.

With that said, my last manga that I acquired I got for free by winning a 'Name that Anime Tune' game at a local anime con xD

You guys are lucky because you have Anime Cons close to where you guys live D:

I used to get my manga at a store online, Waldenbooks, and Barnes and Noble. I usually spend about $5.99 to $10.99 a volume. It depends the publishing company and how popular the title is. But since now Waldenbooks when out of business(where I live). I only got Barnes and Noble and online.

Barnes and Noble didn't have a great selection back then. Maybe now they have a pretty good selection. I need to check back. So if you have a Barnes and Noble, you can check there. Hopefully they have a great selection of manga you want. Or Borders...wait you got a Borders, lol. Or do you?

I remember in Waldenbooks they usually have that special. When you buy four books you will get the fifth for free. Or you buy three books you will get the fourth one for free...something like that. That was the best special that Waldenbooks ever had! I am going to miss sales like that. D:

And since you can't order stuff online. You can't go to this one website I usually go for manga. It is a great one. Their prices are a bit cheaper than the retail bookstores. But alas you can't do it. D:
