So we know that Rowlet, Litten and Popplio represent the three primes in alchemy. One of these, mercury (Popplio), is one of the seven planetary metals. Solgaleo and Lunala represent Gold and Silver (which represent the Sun and the Moon). Rockruff represents lead (Saturn). This leaves us with 3 elements:

    • Tin (Jupiter)
    • Copper (Venus)
    • Iron (Mars)

So which Pokemon link up to these? Here they are, in the same order as above:

So I'll admit Vikavolt is a stretch. But the others seem pretty convincing to me. So what's the deal? What are all these alchemy references for? Well I think it's mainly down to that just being the theme, what with all the space-y stuff. But why those Pokemon?

Starters protect you on your journey as your first Pokemon.
Rockruff is a dog, a man's best friend, and may be a poi dog, said to be a spiritual protector of children.
    Mascots protect the region.
Drampa visits children and gets angry if something tries to hurt them. It goes berserk and protects the children.
Vikavolt... Idk. It's early game. Again, Vikavolt is the weakest point I can make here.
Togedemaru is the Gen 7 Pikachu, making it a sort of trademark of the generation. Pikachu is also Ash's partner, so there's a link there.

So if you let me grasp at straws a bit, all of these Pokemon are somehow linked to the concept of protecting. Credit where it's due to pokejungle for inspiring this. Hawaii has this concept of 'aumakua, which involves ancestors taking the form of objects, plants or animals to watch over the family. All of the creatures that the Pokemon I talk about above are common 'aumakua, with the exception of cats (Solgaleo and Litten) and bats. Vikavolt is, again, a stretch, but I could make a case for caterpillars and link it in to Grubbin, as caterpillars are a common 'aumakua.

So why the protection thing, though? Um, insert generic synchro evolution theory. All of the above may have synchro/burst access if it ends up being a thing.

I respect the fact that you've put a lot of effort and research into this, but this is the equivalent to looking for triangles and blaming it on the Illuminati

Hey! Chill out man! You went too deep!!
Coming back to the point, i do agree with most of them, and Vikavolt does seem a stretch. Heh! I am surprised you're so deep into alchemy.
