I remember I could... another site of course.

As I delete a higher than average amount of my own posts, I've become curious; I'm not bothered, just wondering.

    Soft deleted, yes.

    Physically removed, no.

Yeah, any staff member can read soft-deleted posts within the areas they have power within, but every member of staff can see that a post has been soft-deleted, and the reason given.

But Nica is right, once a post or thread is hard-deleted... it's gone from the boards forever. Nobody will ever see it again, not even admins. However, only members of higher staff have the power to delete in that manner. :3

Ok so what is the difference between "soft" and "hard" deleted?

Not just admins. Any mod of a forum can see deleted posts within their forums. So Smods and higher can see deleted posts boardwide (due to having smod powers) and mods will only be able to view the posts in their own forums.

    ...I think. o_O

    Interesting...

Slightly off-topic, but how, may I ask, does a post that has been edited several times appear to a moderator(+)?

Yep. We can only see deleted posts in our own forums (and VMs).

    Uhhh...what?

It looks the same to us as it does for you. It just shows the last time it was edited, by whom, and a reason, if given. We can't see how many times it was edited, but admins (maybe smods too) can see who edited it and what they changed, I believe.

This is true for moderators in their own forums as well.

In any board we have permissions in, we can see how many times a post was edited, the content that was changed, etc.

I know this is probably silly, but is there any possible way to allow users to be able to read their own deleted posts without causing a big permissions mess, or is that a permission that is packaged into being a staff member and isn't easy as enabling for members as ticking a checkbox?

I have noticed that posts do not fully delete on these boards. Meaning that the post is gone but there is always a bar saying This post was deleted by so and so. Can mods or Admins read those even if you or someone else deletes their own post? Is there a way to fully delete the post rather than part of it linger or hang.? On another site I belong to when you delete a post it does not show anything at all. Not even a bar saying who deleted the post. I hope it can be adjusted so the post is completely deleted because the bar kind of is annoying when trying to edit a thread or even a trade thread.:)

That's likely not going to happen, I'm afraid. HStaff doesn't hard delete unless something really, REALLY bad.

If you have a trade thread, contact a mod [e.g. me] about merging some posts at the beginning of a thread so you can have multiple posts in a row if you need them :)

That's a negative, Batman. As I've personally fiddled around with a vB Demo a few times, I've noticed there's no option for this specifically for just members. (:

We actually try not to hard delete ever, actually, no matter how bad it is. :/

And the bar doesn't normally show on most forums--we specifically turned on the ability for members to see deletion notices so that we'd stop getting reports of "oh, so-and-so double posted!" when in reality, the post in between them was just deleted.
