1st Gen Can you actually buy a Bicycle in R/B/Y?

    I was walking around Cerulean City, and went to the Bicycle shop to get my bike with a voucher - when I saw the option to buy a bike.

    I was wondering, has anyone tried to buy one using a hack or something? It'd be interesting to know if Nintendo bothered to put something dumb like that in.
     
    probably with a hack. With hacks you can do almost anything lol. But to actually do it without hacking and without a bike voucher is impossible. The most amount of money you can collect in the game is litterally a dollar under the amount
     
    I used to try to save up to buy one. It never worked. </3

    I imagine with a hack you could. But, it might mess the game up? Being that Nintendo obviously made it to where you couldn't on purpose.
     
    I don't think you can. I tried... didn't work.
     
    Right, they might say, "Ooh, Nintendo says you can't buy this item even though we made you think you could... JUST GET THE FFREAKING VOUCHER ALREADY AND MOVE ON WITH YOUR LIFE!!!!!"

    You can't buy it even through hacking. The money counter only goes up to ¥999,999, while the store calls for ¥1,000,000. Aside from that, Game Freak never coded in anything other than the conversation you see already.
     
    I see. That's the same for LeafGreen and FireRed, I suppose.

    ...Wait a sec. My brother has a hacked Blue game that has the money counter at 1,000,000. Is there something wrong with that?

    And yes, he did buy it from America.
     
    It'd be funny if you could, but a big waste. I rarely used my bicycle anyways.
     
    i don't know how you couldn't wanna use your bike the whole time lol. I couldn't handle that slow walking...
     
    Like others said it (and actually tried it), a hack doesn't work. Unless, you're really, really good at it.

    So, it's proven that you can't buy the bike in R/B/G and FR/LG?
     
    Right. You can not buy a bike by conventional means. As far as hacking goes, I'm sure that you can't do it that way either. Even if you could hack to have more than the usual amount the script probably only says you don't have enough money anyways.
