I've seen no thread dedicated to the characters in Sun and Moon, so I thought I'd make one. There's a lot of interesting things going on with the characters already and we got to know a few of them in the demo.

Some of you might have missed an NPC blocking the clothing store mentioning Kahili. Kahili is a great Pokemon trainer and golfer who is currently "conquering the world". Sounds to me like she's the Alola Champion and will be coming home during the post game.

So this thread is supposed to be talking about the new characters of this gen?

I don't think I've all the people revealed for this gen, but so far the ones that I have actually seen were.....just bad. I think the only one that I was totally okay with was the villain boss, but everyone else I had seen had some form of faults. And DON'T get me started with the protags. SM might be the only game alongside BW2 that I might be only picking male....*shudders*

And because I don't care for most of the designs, I don't care for what roles/personalities they will get.

I actually understand where you're coming from. For me, aside from maybe Gladion, Guzma, Hau, and Ilmia, I really don't care for any of the human designs this time around. And because of that, I'm having a very hard time making myself care about what role they may play or how they will turn out character-wise.

I admit there's a possibility that they may turn out to be multi-faceted and that could make up for the poor designs, but there's no doubt that for me the designs overall are an aspect that I don't care for, and that definitely impacts how I perceive the characters before going into the game.

Design wise, I really like all the characters seen so far,they've all been pretty solid except for maaaybe Sophocles and the protagonists (who aren't bad, they're just bland. but that's why we have customization!).

I really hope these characters have strong personalities, like in Black and White, and I hope many of them make reoccurring appearances too, and from the looks of it it looks like they might.

I'm noot a fan of the characters in this, now. They all feel like characters from tutorial segmeants. So yeah, not a fan.

The rivals arent as exciting as when there were two. They handled it better in recent gens than S&M.

Hau is alright, I'm hoping he has some strong Pokemon. Not too fond of the other characters at this point but I am sure they'll grow on me as I play through the game.

At this point, the only characters I am remotely interested in is Lillie, Mallow, Lusamine, and Gladion. I'm sure I will come to a liking for most of the characters once the games are released so I can see them in action.

I came across an interesting comment on YouTube, and it had to do with Guzma. Apparently, Guzma is named after the guzmania flower. They also said that the ultimate weapon from XY looked suspiciously like that specific species of flower. Here's for comparison:

As much as I don't want Kalos to be connected to Alola in any way, one has to stop and wonder whether or not this is a Kalos reference by Game Freak and whether there's more to it than meets the eye.

I mean, the Kalos story did feel incomplete, so they might try and tie loose ends here. I'm still interested in the Kalos war, tbh the most interesting and also ignored part of the story in XY.

In all honesty, I think we should be expecting elements of sorts from every past Generation. We already have Cynthia, Red and Blue appearing, and Sina and Dexio send you on a quest looking for Zygarde. Due to the space theme in these games, I wouldn't be surprised if we get references and cameos regarding Hoenn's Mossdeep Space Center and Cozmo.

I'm looking forward to seeing which other characters will be making a cameo in the games, even if it is just for the Battle Tree. As for the Alolan characters, we've definitely got an interesting bunch who all seem to have some sort of hidden agenda. Kukui is not as straight forward as he seems, Guzma is definitely hiding something, Lillie seems too mysterious to be the "nice girl" and then most obviously Lusamine is just a huge question mark rn.

I disagree! This is Alola we're exploring though, not Kalos. I'd rather not have the region's identity compromised for the sake of "tying up loose ends" from past generations. XY feeling incomplete and unpolished is a fault of XY, not SM, so it shouldn't be SM's problem.

I can maybe foresee some references to Kalos that might help clear the mud, but that's about all I'm expecting, here.

Well I hope they don't mix the two stories either, just maybe drop little references here and there, maybe tie loose ends. I'd like to know what actually happened to Lysandre, for example. But yes, Kalos' faults should in no way damage Alola, I want them to give us a full and complete story and region again.

As for the characters this time around, I like them sooo so much more than the Kalos characters, at least design wise. The main characters are honestly our most bland to date, although the girl has been warming up on me, she's kind of cute, either way I think they were designed that way intentionally to work with character customization.
I love Team Skull and the Admins look awesome. Gladion looks like Sasuke merged with a Jojo character, Plumeria is cool, and Guzma is straight up awesome, I'd love to party with him.
The trial captains have pretty good designs, Mallow is cute. Hala is pretty badass and I like Hau too.
Kakui continues the trend of "hot" professors (I even saw a cosplay at a con a few months ago), and I like the Aether Foundation's designs too. Wicke is cute and Lusamine reminds me of Cynthia in a way, she's really cool and I feel like she'll be a great character no matter how her true identity is. Also Lillie is cute. So yes, I really like the character designs this time around and I hope they are as well polished and developed as Gen 5's characters.
