    I wrote this for a small section of my school newspaper, and I thought it'd be great to share it here.

    ======================================================
    Our society loves to race. There is car racing, horse racing, marathons, canoeing, and boat racing. If you want strange, there?s the traditional elephant racing in India, too.

    However, have you ever heard of cheese racing?

    And from whose head did this crazy idea come from? It started when four friends gathered at a campsite for a barbecue, and they had an idea to throw a slice of Kraft processed cheese onto the barbecue, expecting the whole thing to melt into a burnt and toxic mass with poisonous gases spouting from it. To their astonishment, not only did the plastic covering remained intact, the contents inside became a furious boil. Soon, hot air pockets developed inside, the whole thing inflated, and the pack started to float.

    For some reason, Kraft designed the cheese package so that it is fragile enough to be opened by a small child, yet resist being dropped in boiling water, pressed by a steamed iron, and of course, dropped on a barbecue.

    The four friends soon started another idea: why not slap four slices of cheese on the barbecue, and see which one floats first? The lunatics soon turned this into a sport.

    So, the next time your family decides to start a barbecue dinner, why not slap a few slices of Kraft cheese on the grill, and place your bet?

    The moral of this article is: Food is for playing, and that?s a fact.

    Near Osmington, Britain, of all places. XD

    It started around 1997. They even have rules...O_o

    --- All players must place their cheese on the BBQ at the same time.

    --- Cheeses must not overlap.

    --- After the initial throwing of the cheese onto the barbecue (the "cast"), one poke of the slice (the "poke") is permitted in cases of accidental overlap when the offending cheeses must be repositioned as quickly as possible. No further touching of the cheese is permitted.

    --- No blowing/fanning the flames under your cheese.

    --- The winning cheese is defined as the one whose reaches a fully inflated stage first. Fully inflated means that all four corners have raised off the BBQ and the plastic is taut (distinctive "stretch" marks which appear on the sides of the parcel). This state must maintainable (i.e. it does not count if the bag is pulsing up and down due to springing a leak).

    --- Note that springing a leak does not automatically mean you have lost - it is possible for the hole to become sealed with melted cheese and the bag to fully inflate anyway - such is the excitement of cheese racing - it's not over till it's over!

    --- In the event of a draw. The tied cheese owners will race again.

    --- Deliberate breaking of any of these rules will result in your cheese being disqualified and removed from the BBQ.
