4th Gen Chimchar's Worth

I think that Chimchar, the fire starter, is a lot more cool than people give it credit for. It's cute, powerful, and makes way for a lot of other unique Pokemon to add onto a Sinnoh team.
But with the popular Pokemon media, that isn't news that many people care about. In fact, the anime went so far as to portray Chimchar as a gluttonous jerk. This is mean and unaccurate. Sure, Turtwig and Piplup can handle the first gym, but Chimchar's evolution is the only one out of the 3 starters to get a second type first.

don't forget that when all three are fully Evolved Infernape has the advantage over both Empoleon and Torterra. and Paul always keeps his Chimchar because he has faith in it and thinks that it hasn't reached its full potential. UGHHH! I can't believe I actually said THAT!

Chimchar too can handle the first gym. You just need to level it up enough so it learns Mach Punch. That's what I did and I beat Roark pretty easy.

Yeah, Ember worked pretty well against his Pokemon, surprisingly.

As I said before, I taught my Bidoof Hidden Power and he mananged to beat Onix and Geodude so it wasn't too hard.

Yeah great points everyone, but he looks stupid in many people's opinions, including mine. Plus he's not unique. Torterra and Empoleon are new types for stater Pokemon once fully evolved. We've had a Fire/Fighting starter already in R/S/E.

And Charizard, Typhlosion and Blaziken all look cooler I think. A CHICKEN LOOKS BETTER THAN A MONKEY. Fact.

I think Empoleon look more dumb though. Stupid penguin, should have stayed a Piplup.

it may not be unique but it is the most powerful of the 3 Sinnoh Starters in their fully evolved form. and it looks cooler than the other fire starters. but i have to agree that Blaziken looks cooler in most cases.

It definetly is the most powerful seeing as its attack and speed stats are very high, but it IS ugly. And Empoleon gains resistance to 12 different types. Torterra's just okay overall. And no, I personally do not think Infernape is unique.

At any rate, Infernape is quite useful if used correctly. And when you consider Blaziken's lack of Close Combat and slower speed, Infernape fits better in the sweeper position.

it doesn't look UGLY, Viva La Flaming Kung-Fu Monkeys!. And Infernape has an advantage over BOTH the starters while the other 2 only have 1 advantage over the other. that's why i'm saying Infernape is the strongest of the 3. and i can agree that Infernape isn't unique when it comes to typing but he only has 2 starters to really worry about: Swampert and Charizard.

looks aside it CAN beat Empoleon and Torterra. Its speed allows it to Fire Blast Torterra, despite it being ground it will still be effective. And yes speed is key. Because its close combat will destroy Empoleon

You've got a point, but I don't really battle competively, I just mainly trade and collect lol.

And it's all opinion, I have a preference for Dragon and dragon like pokemon, and I guess Blaziken looks slightly more like one then Infernape. I know netiher of them do at all, but meh.
Plus that and the fact that I hate primates, may sway my decision.
Plus Chimchar evolution line has annoying cries.

EXACTLY! FINALLY SOMEONE GETS IT! and like i said there are only 2 starters Infernape really needs to worry about: Charizard and Swampert.

Hm, I use a mixed sweeper Infernape w/ Grass Knot, so Swampert doesn't really stand a chance...

At any rate, I don't like thinking about starters vs. starters, as such a scenario wouldn't come up often enough to matter. ~Wii

Chimchars are in my opinion the worst satarter in history. IF u can survive 1 hit from them (and most pokes can) they are dead in one hit w/ the exeption of focas sash.

Actually Infernape will be pretty much OU. It is one of the few Pokemon that can destroy the ever so common SkarmBliss.

That's rather situational. Especially when you consider just how strong a Close Combat from Infernape can be, even if it were to die afterwards, you aren't going to be left without a nice dent in your HP.

yeah thats probably true. IT just so happened that every infernape I've fought get OHKO exept one when on wifi it was infernape vs typhlosion we bothe hit each other and went into red health, but luckily I won because the guy I was fighting used cut and thought it'l kill me
