Cloning extinct species

I'm aware there's a mini-discussion about it going on here, but I figured it deserved a full topic of its own to really flesh out the subject.

It is apparently just a matter of time until the idea of cloning extinct species moves from a scientific realm of possibility into a very real ethical realm as well, with one mammal already being technically brought back from extinction, if only for seven minutes. But with Great Power comes Great Responsibility and what not - just because we can, should we? Is cloning extinct species, whether they died by our own hand or natural selection, a viable path to take?

Perhaps the hardest question to answer is this - if we found a way to clone a Neanderthal, should we?

no no no no no no

The legal issues surrounding a living, breathing Neanderthal man would be exciting. But I don't think it's worth pressing on a society with other problems on its hands. I certainly wouldn't want to deal with it.
