It's possible, but only if you have 2 3DS and 2 games. Personally I wouldn't waste $150+ just to manipulate some data, but I guess it's up to you.

on youtube someone has a video of them doing it with 1 game but you need an SD card port on your computer/laptop to do it

I just watched that video and i think its bogus. I tried it 5 min ago( purely to see if it was true or not), doing the exact thing he did, and i did not work. If your planning on cheating think twice, these kinda of things can ruin your game and all your hard work will be for nothing.
