hey all ignore me if this has been made lol i just have a couple of cards in my collection i kind of wanted to talk about and i wondered if anyone else have similar oddities in their collections. any misprints or even something with a crazy story, i'd love to hear it. i live for that stuff.

first up is this prerelease misty's seadra. it was the first iteration of the card that i got and it's this. weird? thing? by the energy cost for knockout needle. the owner of the hobby shop i went to was my neighbor and like another grandmother to me so i always got the promos when they came to the store, and so did my sister and my friend. so that being said, theirs did not have this marking on it while mine did. i've since gotten another copy of the card...again, missing the weird. thing. lol never have seen another like it so i guess it's just a misprint but most misprints i've seen are just the energy cost and not...whatever this is.

    weird card:

my next one is just a stupid story lol my friend pulled a light arcanine from a pack and i begged him to trade it to me, but he wouldn't budge. well. dumbass forgot to take his cards out of his pocket. guess who still wanted the light arcanine? lol easy trade when it was this condition... you know though, as a result of this, i kind of just don't care that much about condition? i really just like having the cards and enjoying the artwork - or even the nostalgia, in older cards' case. i'll buy a damaged card just bc i like the card enough to want to own it. and hey if i don't buy the damaged one, who else will?

    Spoiler:

there are probably some more anomalies in my collection, but those are my biggest.

I... have no idea what is going on with that Prerelease Seadra. I've not seen anything like it nor have I read anything about an error like that. It looks like a printing error, obviously, but how one that dramatic would have gotten through is strange. I checked my few Prerelease Seadras and didn't see anything but, wow, that's a really cool find!! I'd definitely hang on to that one. Probably loses all value cause of that error but heck the money I love that oddity.

I also have a fake Base Set Charizard like that Arcanine, lmfao. I know it was a playground trade from 1996 but lord knows how it ended up in that condition. Basically it's the same with all the edgewear but someone also took the time to scratch the fuck outta the Charmeleon icon on the top -- like they REALLY didn't like Charmeleon lmfao.

My biggest oddity.. I honestly couldn't say. I go out of my way to collect cards with strange errors, weird prints, poor alignment, typos, or cards that tell a fun story. The most prolific card I have is the no damage Base Set, shadowless Ninetales. I also have a 1st edition, Prerelease Fossil set Aerodactyl, which was a neat find. Oh, and that spelling error 'hust' Shining Tyranitar (But I think it was concluded most were printed like that?).

Edit: all Shining Tyranitar were printed like that, so it's not an oddity at all lmao. Just really lazy editing. Still, gotta love it for that though. WOTC card printing was so messy, haha.

And that infamous "swastika" trainer card with the Golbat, I picked up one of those, so that's uhhhhh special.

oh yeah, i've had this thing since it was (pre?)released and even as a kid, i thought that print was so strange and bizarre that i never planned to get rid of this card. it's just so strange. and i've seen so many others (and even HAVE a second one) that don't have it, so clearly mine is the odd one out. but yeah i've never seen that big of an error on any other card. when i first got it, i assumed that it was a new mechanic in the game and seadra needed a water stone or new item to use that move + the energy cost. lol

i rly love misprints and strange things like that though, they're more charming than how the perfect one. i've got some german cards with poor alignment on the borders too, so those are p neat...aside from being in another language. though in recent years, i've questioned the authenticity of them. i wouldn't get rid of them, though. just because i've had them so long now.

i didn't know that about shining tyranitar! i'll have to check mine. i never looked over it that hard. it was a gift from my partner and i was just more stoked to have a shining that i was missing lmfao.

I feel exactly the same way! I wouldn't get rid of even my most destroyed or fake cards because I've had them for so long and love them lol. I've got French and German cards that are in good condition but super suspicious looking too, like, they're really discolored and not from a 'printing or sun exposure' way.

I always try to convince people here to keep the fake cards they find because I'm so happy I have all these legends of my personal card collecting journey and I want other people to have that moment too. The money is soooo secondary compared to when you can look at all of your cards and know everything about where you got it and how much you spent/what you traded, what it means, and when you learned what glorious trash it is! <3 Or random vending machine cards or Coro Coro cards that you can pull out of garage sales! It's downright magical. Found myself a glossy Kangaskhan not too long ago.

Def check your Shining Tyranitar! It'll be in the flavor text. Would be really neat if yours is spelled right!! :D
