Ah, Colress, the infamous scientist of pokemon Black and White 2. Obsessed with science, little is known about him.
But what if i told you he invented more things then you would think?
For the people who didint know, Colress is actually referenced in X and Y. A backpacker on route 10 states:
"A few years back, this really strange dude named Colress told me that these big stones emit some kind of special energy."
We now know that these stones were irradiated by AZ's superweapon and that they rusulted in the mega stones and key stones.
But the stones are too convinient, dont you think? Rayquaza used a Rough looking meteor to mega evolve. While evrey other mega stone in the game(and key stone) is perfectly round. To search for awnsers, lets look at the pokemon timeline. Gen 1 + Oras take place, 3 years later, Gen 2 + Gen 4 take place, and then a few years after that, Black and white, and immidiatley after BW2 + X and Y. We can extrapolate that for someone to have created the mega stones they would have needed to reaserch the superweapon and irradiated rocks themselves. Colress is the only person that is possible. Sycamore stated himself that mega evolution is still largley a mystery after years of your character using it in ORAS. It is fully possible that Colress invented modern mega evolution with the sophisticated stones and key stones. In fact, look at his text from The pokemon world tournament:
"As a researcher, it is the truth and the ideal way things should be that I seek. The latent power of Pokémon… What is the best way to bring it out? If possible, I want it to be the trust between Trainers and their Pokémon, just as it has always been. I look forward to you teaching me that this is indeed true!"
Its fully possible that Colress knows about mega evolution when working with team plasma but cannot utilise it as all native pokemon of the reigion cannot mega evolve.
What else could Could Colress be doing? Inventing modern mega evolution (i should clarify that this excludes exeptions like the lucario tower, which could have been using a less sophisticated method of mega evolution) means that he has been around for quite a while.
We know that in the anime, Colress is being shown using his energy device to amplify the powers of pokemon and controll them. He states in the episode "Team Plasma's Pokémon Manipulation!" this: "Using electromagnetic waves to create stress in the test subject, we increase its power to maximum potential. Previously the EM waves emmited by this device affected any nearby pokemon. Now, we can target specific test subjects thanks to numerous upgrades. I have a theory: Pokemon brainwaves are divided into four groups, they are alpha waves, beta waves, gamma waves and delta waves. The key to the sucsess of this device is that it supresses the alpha waves while amplifying the gamma and delta waves." While what happens in the anime dosen always correspond with the games, we can assume Colress's theory is correct. Now if anyone here has played shadows of almia, like i have, you are already thinking the same thing as i am:"Wait, isint that exactly the function of the Gigaremo and Miniremo?" For those of you who did not play Pokemon rangers shadows of almia, the gigaremo was created by Team dim sun/Altru Inc. It uses shards of the dark stone to to affect pokemon in a wide range, subding them, even tho it has a limited amount of commands. Anyone seeing a pattern here? Strange stones, machines to controll and energise pokemon? Waves emmited by said machine? Anyways, what is interesting is the Miniremo: It can only controll a few pokemon at the same time but it mutch more portable(the gigaremo needs 4 normal people to move them) as it is the same size (and wheight) as a laptop. It has over a hundred commands. Who invented the Miniremo? Issac. Who is issac? A intelligent blond scientist that- wait, where have i seen this description before? Colress couldent be- but maybe?
Now, Colress = Isaac is a possibility, but of course this causes problems in the timeline, including the difference in eye color, altho its entierly possibly he is wearing colored contact lenses or modified his biology somehow. Also, Colress and Isaac's motives differ greatly. Its entierly possible he also knew that the player would deafeat team plasma. And many things could have happend in the time between S.O.A. and BW2. Talking about time, Shadows of almia takes place about the same time as gen 2 and 4, which is a problem considering ORAS takes place before those games, and it has mega evolution. Maybe the timeline is wrong as i dont remember almia having references to it being specifically at that point in the timeline, but who knows?
Its probable that at this point Colress has extensivley helped the other pokemon teams get the technology needed for their master plans, exept for team roket. I made some reaserch to see if i could find a constant in the evil team plans, and i think i have. In the team magma base in or(and AS for aqua too i presume) there is a scientist that states:"Here, we're conducting expiriments to understand how they all relate to understand how to create a Red Orb artificially." The machine behind him has seats. If you sit in one of them and interect with it, it says "Its a machine to irradiate meteorites". More rocks, more iradiation. In DPP, Cyrus duplicates(Oh, more duplicating) the red chain and uses it to take controll of dialga and/or palkia. More taking controll of pokemon with rocks(the red chain is composed of gems so it passes for rocks). And while i find difficulty to see how Colress would have collaborated with team flare, its extremley possible that he is the person that located the location of AZ's superweapon in the first place, as he was studing the rock close to it.
One thing is for sure, we havent seen the last of Colress in the pokemon games.
