What I mean by that are viruses. This is my story.. you don't need to read it. XD:

    Spoiler:

ANYWAY, point of this thread is, do you know any viruses? Have a story about one? Know how to get rid of it?

I apoligize if this doesn't fit in with the category or if it is pointless/etc.. If so please lock the post without further ado. Sorry.

On my mom's Facebook, my grandma sent her a message saying, "Heyy youu werree seenn onn a hiddenn camm! Checkk itt outt.!"
I told her not to click.

Then yesterday, I got the message on Myspace so of course I didn't click it. :D
    I don't like viruses.

This one day, I got one of those viurs... I don't remember how it even got on my computer in the ..(I had my computer off, due to the fact I was heading to my campus.....)

When I turned it on... I pressed CRTL + ALt + DEL, however I didn't see taskmng..... It turns out my computer was infected with a rouge anti-virus known Antivirus Remover Pro... It wanted me to "Pay" to update... I did not

I searched for it on google.. Relized it was a fake Trojan.FakeAntiviurs... installed Malwarebytes' Anti-malware, and Got rid of it....

And I've almost failed for those internet sites that look like they are scanning your computer... Thank god for WOT.... I've been protected everyday!

I've had viruses take out entire hard drives myself. A real pain when that happens. Of course, Norton didn't want to help.

Yea, I hate it when scanners don't find viruses.. <_<'

Lol, as if a grandma would say that.. XD
That was obviously the same worm I got. Yes, careful, don't click it. Good for you! ^^ *pat pat*

unfortunately I don't have much experience dealing with viruses, mainly due to my preventative measures in my daily activity.
    1. I don't open any email from a sender whose return address I don't recognise
    2. I usually am running dual firewalls and AV/ASw programs when I boot over to Windows
    3. Even on the main partition that runs Mac OS X, I run Intego Virus barrier that scans for both malicious software that affects Windows as well as Macintosh.

I started these habitual measures in response to the one instance where I was almost directly affected by a trojan. I hacker had somehow been able to use an address that I had previously deactivated with Yahoo! and began using it to solicit spam and I happen to receive a message from them while they were using my old address. needless to say, even though I've since reported the offence to Yahoo! the hacker is still using it because they aren't actually routing the email through a Yahoo! server but are still able to give it the proper yahoo! header. they are still using it to track the hacker.

one word: Avast! (yes with the "!") it can be your best friend. its a free anti-virus, not as user friendly as AVG (the other free one) but it works a lot better. Avast! scans site before they are done loading and will alert you with a voice and text box saying there is a virus on the site and in that text box there is an abort conection button which usually stops the page from loading (sometimes while tab browsing it doesn't respond very fast). I find Avast! to work better than the ones that cost money such as Norton. Also Avast! does something some anti-viruses can't do it can do a boot scan (scans before your computer is starts up all the way) in order to remove viruses that try to hide themselves while your computer is in use. It also auto scans any folders that you open.

    McAfee? o_o

Once I got a strange-o virus and my dad thought it was screwing up the computer and reformatted.

And I lost everything. Including my epic homework! >=[

I remember I got this virus thingo that affected my router, not my computer once, and after reformatting my computer twice i realised the goddam thing was on the network :|

So I had to format every single computer and completely reset my router.

Its a shame when you go through so much effort to pirate kaspersky and in the end it doesnt help XD

This is why I like Avast!. It's really good at preventing viruses from taking hold, even in the free version. :D

no major viruses recently. (thank god!)
otherwise on my previous PC, lol, there were too many viruses.
btw, does the Operating System in anyway affect the severity of a virus or the no. of virus attacks? coz my XP used to get lots of viruses, in 7 there havent been any.

My comp reverted back from windows 7 to windows 5 or something...and then my mom had to pay 130 dollars to get it fixed...and it's only a 1 time fix...

I don't get viruses on my laptop. My desktop has a virus though. It's a real pain, but I can't seem to get rid of it.

My comp got infected with a Trojan many times before.I had to send it to the shop, and it was a real pain. The last time I sent it, the guy installed a better version of Kapersky Internet Security than what I have.

Oh, and just a few weeks ago,I downloaded Google Chrome and ... ta-da ! A Trojan Virus ! Luckily I managed to get rid of it, or who knows what might happen.

Interesting. To get Koobface off of my CPU I used something called FreeFixer. It updates to very new viruses quickly, and doesn't take long to download. The scan is quick too.
McAfee fails to detect many viruses(or maybe mine is just old) but it scans 24/7(but yet, takes FOREVER to scan..)

I scanned freddy75.exe, a part of the Koobface virus, head-on with McAfee. McAfee said there were no viruses.. XD

What? You've never heard of McAfee before?
ooh, sucks to lose homework.. They won't let you use "my computer crashed" as an excuse. :|

Um, what? Windows 5 was not actually a Windows release (obviously XP's version number was 5, but that doesn't count). It can't possible have reverted to a previous version of Windows. It didn't just kill your visual style?

What's with everyone buying new computers whenever something goes wrong?

lol, windows 5! he surely means XP, how can he revert 7 back to XP, you cant upgrade XP to 7, so there is no possibility of a downgrade....

That is a common one, my dad had the DOWNLOADER then Windows Defender located it and deleted it.

It's true that you cannot upgrade from XP to 7, but you can do what they call a "format" or a "clean install", where you wipe (delete everything off of) your main Hard Drive and then run the installer for whichever OS you choose. Same can be said for going from 7 to XP. Just wipe and install.

One more reason I don't care for Chrome. It doesn't have built-in virus checking (In Firefox, it's basic, but it's something.), and it doesn't have much (if any) website checking. See WOT's Firefox add-on to know what I mean.
