Do you think all Pokemon could learn how to speak human language like Meowth or do you think Meouth was unique?

I am not sure, it would be cool to see Ash trying (and failing) to teach Pikachu human language though.

I bet if they all tried, like Meowth did, they could learn human speech, too.

I think Meowth is special. I mean, the Pokemon have been shown to have near-human intelligence, so there must be a reason why none of them say anything except for their names. At their level of intelligence, they should at least have learned something other than their own name if they could, but they haven't, so imo it's implied that they can't.

Well, I suppose it first depends if the Pokémon in question has an appropriately-shaped tongue and voice box and whatever. Then they have to have the will to learn to speak the language, which apparently took Meowth quite a long time and involved a lot of work. I suppose most Pokémon have the ability to learn it... maybe it just hasn't occurred to them that such a thing is a possibility?

Well, Meowth had to give up learning Pay Day to learn how to talk, and it was because he wanted to impress Meowzie. Other Pokemon don't have a high incentive like trying to stand out of the crowd to impress another Pokemon they're in love with and probably think learning how to talk wouldn't be worth it, seeing as how talking doesn't really have a purpose in battle and losing the ability to learn an attack doesn't seem appealing to them (I'd assume, anyway). But, I'd imagine every Pokemon has the ability to learn it. It'd be weird for this specific Meowth to be the only Pokemon in the world to have the ability to learn how to talk.

Well, Zorua can talk, as can Mewtwo and, as I recall, a Gastly from one episode. All of them can understand human language, at any rate, better than most humans can understand theirs.

It's possible to teach a Pokemon human language, but it would take a lot of time and effort, similar to how Meowth had to spend a lot of time and patience learning how to act like a human.

Well mewtwo used telepathy to speak the human language. And don't forget Slowking in the Pokemon 2000 movie.

I think Meowth was just special... Unless ther was some other movie stuff I missed :/

    Like that XD

Also, the Sapphire description says that Latias is intelligent enough to understand the human language

Sapphire LATIAS is highly intelligent and capable of understanding human speech. It is covered with a glass-like down. The POKéMON enfolds its body with its down and refracts light to alter its appearance.

Yes. Meowth's excursion into the human language world was romantic to be sure, but other Pokemon such as Latios, Slowking, and the ones I mentioned can all speak in human language, and without having to give up moves.

    It's Digimon all over again.

I don't get the Digimon thing at all. Counting all of the pokemon who can speak, most of them use telepathy or in Lucario's case his advanced Aura abilities. They speak without moving their mouths. The only ones who don't use telepathy are Meowth and Slowking, and Slowking didn't battle in the movie so you can't make any statements about whether it gave up moves or not.

I think Pokemon who are a bit smarter than other Pokemon can do this, Meowth/SlowKing from the second movie can walk/talk. That, or some of the other Pokemon just didn't have a reason enough to do so like Meowth did. Like Meowth wanted to cuz of a girl he was in love with, poor cat got walked all over in the end and joined Team Rocket due to that. Maybe, if Ash was in trouble and no one but Pikachu was around than maybe he would try to learn to talk and maybe faster than Meowth due to Ash being in trouble? Just throwing out ideas here.

I think every Pokemon has a chance of learning Human language but I believe that certain Pokemon have a better chance of learning the language a lot quicker and better; certain Pokemon such as Alakazam and another highly intelligent Pokemon.
