Jonathan had already been getting a bit worried about the weather. Now, though, it was personal.
Not having quite moved away yet, Jonathan had woken up that morning to thick snow falling outside, when it shouldn't have been falling. Thickly. Which had, absently, reminded him of a quote from a certain movie.
The snowstorm had knocked out the power across town, so he was left to tinker with the broken-down computer in his room. His brothers had been out of the house long enough now, and his parents were currently chaperones on some sort of school-trip that included his sister.
With this weather, though? Jonathan wondered if they were stuck somewhere else.
By sunset, the skies had cleared up. The power was still down, though, which made it a bit...boring. Inside, at least. Jonathan put on some snow-clothes, plus his favorite coat. Might as well, he thought. It was clear outside now, and there wasn't much else to do inside.
A while later, Jonathan was lying down in the snow outside, looking up at the stars that were appearing. At least those weren't acting crazy.
Cold. And getting a little wet. Time to go back in. Jonathan was standing and brushing snow off when the flash of light and the mini-explosion hit.
It was a bit of a struggle before Jonathan pushed himself back up. "Snow isn't packed," he muttered, stunned by the mini-explosion. What had that light been? When he turned around, a rolled-up piece of paper was shoved into his face, making him fall back down. A black...figure, with a weird white hairdo, dropped the letter into Jonathan's lap before floating back to where a round-ish object sat in the snow.
It took a few seconds for Jonathan to register that it looked like an egg, then another to recognize that it looked similar to the Pokemon Eggs in the games. "Wait, what?" Jonathan was sure that this kind of thing didn't normally happen. "What're you, then?" He asked the black figure. It was dark outside, and the moon didn't seem to be all that much light tonight.
Jonathan shoved the paper into one of his coat's pockets before standing up again. Better get inside, he thought, picking up the egg.
A few minutes later, Jonathan was sitting in the middle of the main room, a fire burning in the wood-stove and the egg sitting in the middle of a pile of blankets. "I'm goin' crazy, aren't I?" he asked, looking up at the black figure. Which had turned out to be a Darkrai. Straight outta the Pokemon world, if this letter was real.
I write these letters... in hopes that anyone can answer my plea. My world... it is dying. The sky has forgotten sunrise. The inhabitants are falling, falling to this strange song and slipping into the most bloodstained of madness. My world is tearing itself apart. If this goes on... both our worlds will die. I can not stop her any longer. By the time you read this I am certain she will have captured or killed me. The creature who carried this to you is a Pokemon. In that egg with it is also a Pokemon. Please, with these two, please fight to protect our worlds. Please... end my sister's life before the Gods raise her up to immortality.
Child of Wishes, Aiko
"No, not crazy," Jonathan said, looking back at the egg. "That would've disappeared by now if I'd gone crazy in the snow." After re-reading the letter, he noticed the 's' in the fourth word. "There are others?" he asked, looking up at the Darkrai, who nodded.
Real-life Pokemon from the Pokemon world, which might die along with this world.
"How'm I gonna explain this?" Jonathan groaned.
