[Criticism] - Seriously now. >:[

Thrace is perfectly right.
This IS a community, not a cult.
You can't go up and tell people who don't even read the rules, how to behave.
Most n00bs just go straight to the fancy stuff, none of them read the rules or these types of threads.
And why would they read this thread, the title is a dead turn off, it's like you're coming out hostile first thing.

Well then, since everyone apparently hates me for trying to help, I guess I won't even bother with this place anymore. It's beyond restoration.

So, if I can't help people, how can anyone else?
I suppose we'll just rely on the all-powerful staff, all-knowing, staff.

Well, if I can't be offensive, I'll take the other approach. Let's just guide them the whole way through. Help every n00b on the forum. Let's all make great hacks, [soft, gentle]together[/soft,gentle].

^Whoa whoa whoa, I can't speak for others but I don't want you to quit, and I appreciate that your trying to help. But in my opinion the only way to stop noobs from being noobs is to, well, help them stop being noobs. Many people get to this forum, get excited about hacking (even though they don't know the first thing about it) and make a thread, only to promtly get flamed by others and get discouraged. We NEED enthusiasm about hacking, that it what spurred some of the great hacks of the past. If someone bothered to sit down and explain the basics of hacking with the discouraged noob, who knows? They might just turn to be a great hacker and make hacks that spread enjoyment for everyone. Don't quit.

^People on here arn't being jack-asses, but some of them are over-reacting a little. It's good that you're trying to help the community out, but you have to understand that there will always be noobs, there are noobs in every single community on the internet. If you want to help out, you should try to directly contact the "noobs" who you are preaching to, instead of posting here with people who act like "jackasses" towards you. That's all, nobody here thinks less of you (well I don't).

Fine, I overreacted a bit. Sorry if I offended anyone with anything I've posted in this thread.

And to the person who said: "You try and do better", I'll do better if you do better as well. Deal?

Why should I stay when almost everyone here is being a jackass (even though they're right on some things) about my post?

I'd like to see someone else try to help the community out. Well? Anyone? >:|

Hey, I tried a bit, didn't I? And besides, I think that even just helping people out on the Simple Questions thread is helping the community. If we usher in the new era of hackers with open arms (although pointing out the stupid things that they do here and there), I think that the community could make some sort of a comeback. You know, even in the olden days, they had to start somewhere, with a couple of people that were somewhat experienced (like we have now) and plenty of people eager to learn how to hack.

Fine, I overreacted a bit. Sorry if I offended anyone with anything I've posted in this thread.

-Sigh- There's really no hope for this forum's ROM Hacking section. Sorry to be a downer, but think about it. All of our good hackers have left us, n00bs have taken over, there are no really good hacks anymore.

Don't be a downer. Not everyone has left. Just because things look grim doesn't mean we should just toss in the towel and quit. Honestly, I'm not going to quit, as much as I'd like to (which is not much, by the way). If we give up hope, then we give in, and that's something I'm not going to do.

Agreeing to the notion in which the rom hack section is swarming with so called "noobs" I still think there is hope.

Everything goes through cycles, once these beginners learn and end their begging of people to hack for them will we have a new crop of hackers. It is summer, people get bored and find the hack section here. Most of which probably want to get a kick start and basically go on a free for all spam attack on the site.

Come on, you know we all started somewhere so whose right is it say the act of learning to be a more polite and educated member has a time limit. Some may learn, some may not, in the end it is up to you whether you want to hack to your fullest or not learn.

Wrong, there are many good hackers left, don't give up hope.

I have a feeling that hacks such as Light Platinum and Toxic Purple are going to make it...

I never said nobody's trying. I just don't see it. Maybe I should visit the Simple Questions thread more often.

You're completely right, Atlus, we don't need to give in.

United front and all that.

Listen, I agreed with everything you posted in the first post. Every damn thing. Maybe I would've added that noobs should learn how to ****ing spell and grammarise or sprite and not shove DP sprites in hacks like style-less morons... but that's just nitpicking, eh?

Also, I have to agree with a poster that mentioned 'cycles'. When something is popular, say the Sprite Comics of a few years back, it's overrun by those that wish to be popular too and fail at it. Now that Sprite Comics is a barren wasteland, there's no noobs wasting space.

Point is, there will always be the noobs. Always, unless the cycle goes to Rom Hacking = barren wasteland. Patience may be the key, as may just waiting out the storm of noobs (Summertime has a way of bringing them out ...) and hoping a few boats survived with proper standards and good hacking skills.

Tl;dr...

Just kidding, I agree with most of your saying but there is one thing that I disagree with - asking for help. People can't do everything themselves! so what is the matter if they ask for help? haven't you ever asked help? the fact that you know more on a certain subject doesn't make you like ULTIMATEZORG PREACHERZORGER...

If your hack is good enough, they will come wanting to help. Asking really doesn't need to be used. Maybe in some circumstances, that might be necessary, but usually spriters and scripters will come to you... that is, if you don't already know how to do it.

[PokeCommunity.com] [Criticism] - Seriously now. >:[

When I started out, I had NO HELP. I did everything on my own. TwT
Now, I have 2 other spriters and a scripter to help! :D

I reread my last post an realized I rushed it quite a bit, here is a revision of what I meant.

I agree with your said notion that our beloved rom hack section is swarmed with beginning hackers whom most of (not all) lack the patience to learn how to hack by themselves and quickly search the site for someone to do their "dirty-work" for them. Over time knowledge grows in some and they end up as the more prominent and well respected hacker who now has the abilities to do something great. once they harness their new skills they are ready and set to make a hack.

As summer has come along very quickly many new members have shown up and taken interest in hacking as we see every year (at least since I have been a member :O). these new members come as eager as ever and spam threads to gain the help of members in their hacks. These "noobs" as many are calling them lack the determination to learn themselves which is sometimes a gained attribute. Many of these shall never learn and are doomed to fail. But a certain few will prosper and a new age will begin.

As a wrap up of what I have to say I will say one more thing.
It is up to you to hack your best potential, not who is around you. If you want to get something done in which you are capable of doing or willing to be capable. Find a method, use it, and get creative, once you can abide by that you can see many new possibilities in front of you appear.

Panda, you really know how to define things. I never really thought of it as being a cycle. I was new last year and never thought of it that way. This summer, I switched sides in the cycle, becoming an observer instead of a new member, so I thought something was wrong.

Huh, well what do you know.

That's a really horrible thing to say. It's downright insulting. Think of all people who have given up their spare time to make a hack e.g. me, LinkandZelda, Destinedjagold, Neti, Atlus and others and all you say is that there are no good hacks anymore :cer_pissed:.

Well if all our hacks aren't as good as you think they are, please try and do better and save ROM hacking.

I started a hack by myself, learned and practiced, and am still by myself (with the exception of Beta-testers, and someone who makes a few maps for me). And what came from that? My hack that you see today. It might not be the most popular one, but hey It's still pretty good :)

It's not a matter of asking for help, it's just the way they ask..All n00bishly XD (no-offense)

It is very very annoying when a umm...newbie comes to me asking to be their scripter or to make scripts for them without even asking if I want to..
Why waste my time sharing my information on a subject to ONE person, when he/she just like the rest of the 'good' hackers, can read some tutorials and actually practice what they've learned.

I'm not one who can convince with words, but I tried my best. I didn't even FULLY explain everything, but I agree with this topic. Maybe the Admins should post a questionnaire asking newcomers, why they want to join and if they say "ROM hacking" well they should be given a quiz about the ROM hacking section rules and/or the Community rules. Good idea, huh?

Second. That might help with the overswarm of noobs... Most of them probably would be too lazy too fill it out anyways :P

Excellent idea Cooley...this would reduce the n00b factor quite a bit...and give the mods a little less stress...Reducing the spam threads and all the "Extend the storyline to keep this thread open"...(I've been seeing this alot...:\) This would be an excellent Idea...So People actually have to read the rules...and not just go and post an idea having no idea what their doing...with messages like..."I'm a n00b, please don't hurt me if this is a bad idea, or against the rules"

If you think its against the rules...READ THE RULES!!!

I'm Getting off track...Anyways, I...uh..."third" this idea...:P
