3rd Gen Crobat in FR/LG

In Firered or Leafgreen can I evolve Golbat into Crobat before I get the National Pokedex? Or will it halt that evolution until after I get the Nat'l Dex?

no you can evolve it at any time. you just wont get its info added until you get the national dex

Wrong. The evolution will be halted.

You need the National Dex, for any Johto and Hoenn Pokemon.

Barrage is right, it will attempt to evolve, but then it will stop. It gets kind of annoying after a while, a tip is to give it an Everstone until after you get the National Dex. You don't have to, it's just annoying that it tries to evolve everytime it gains a level.

When my Golbat is evolving before I get the National Dex, it evolves then suddenly the message says '???'.
