    For those who have played D/P, you may feel what I feel. After noting the interesting Galactic admin names of Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn, I was surprised to find that their boss is dubbed Cyrus.

    First off, that doesn't fit the planetary naming theme at all. Heck, name him Galieo or something. Two: it certainly doesn't fit the gangster dub theme of the past Bosses (Giovanni, Maxie, Archie). I keep thinking of Billy Ray Cyrus with that name.

    Am I the only one who feels this way?

    XD; I thought of Billy Ray Cyrus too.

    It must have some meaning in relation to the theme, however obscure it may be. I guess it could be just some random name they threw in from laziness or lack of creativity, but I would hope they put a little more thought in the name than that...

    I think it might be something to do with the fact that Cyrus has all these plans for space/time and all that jazz. I feel Pokémon uses stereotypes quite often, and having a gangster nerd (come on, that's all Cyrus is XD) contradicts the stereotype.

    He's actually based of Sirius, the Dog Star. (In Canis Major, the Great Dog constellation, brightest star in the sky, some 23 times brighter than the Sun.)

    That's actually what I thought, too, probably because I don't know about any "Billy Ray Cyrus" guy xD Also, among my friends I'm the only one to pronounce his name "SEE-rus" while everyone else calls him "SEYE-rus."

    I just thought of it as a name. o.O Even though Sirius is one of my favorite constellations, I never made any sort of connection. This just goes to show that I don't think much of the reason why something is done if it doesn't make sense. xP

    So I pronounce his name as in last name of the country singer. And I thought Sirius was pronounced as the word "serious". That's how my astronomy professor said it. :<

    xDD I thought of Billy Ray too!

    But yes, I was a bit surprised myself, because I honestly thought he would have a planet-based name as well.
    >>;

    So was all " ....Cyrus..?"
    It was sorta lame..

    the name doesn't really bother me but it sure doesn't match anything planetarian like. What was Pokemon thinking?

    I decided to look it up on Bulbapedia, and it says,
    His English name, Cyrus, may take its meaning from the original Persian, Kuros, meaning "Sun". Truly, in creating a new world, Cyrus would be like the Sun.
    Notice that it says "may take its meaning," so the only way to know for sure whether or not he's the next country star or star in the sky is when he appears on the anime. Pronounciation always helps when deciphering name meanings.

    I'd give the Japanese credit for such subtlety on the naming issues, but the Nintendo English dubs on the other hand.... Remember, these are the ones that named a male Magma agent, "Tabitha". If they are clever, it's more fluke than design.
