My hurricane report
Hurricanes
Hurricane Katrina has done more than destroy property, it has torn apart families. Which is why Kids In Need is springing into action.
Our mission has always been to help children who have lost a parent. Now, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, thousands of kids face a life without either a mother or father.
While national charity organizations are spread thin using their resources to help a wide range of people, KIN is able to focus attention on a group that cannot be overlooked... children.
KIN hopes you will contribute to our Help Hurricane Kids Fund. We have already made contact with local authorities along the Gulf coast, so your contribution will immediately go to children who need the most assistance... buying things like clothing, diapers, food, medical care, and shelter.
Tornadoes tornadoes, they put up a fight.
They are dangerous day or night!
Tornadoes, tornadoes, they pack a punch.
Tornadoes, tornadoes, they hurt a bunch.
Tornadoes, tornadoes, they are not fun.
Tornadoes, tornadoes, if you see 'em you'd better run!
hurricanes are severe tropical storms that form in the southern Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico, and in the eastern Pacific Ocean. Hurricanes gather heat and energy through contact with warm ocean waters. Evaporation from the seawater increases their power.
Hurricanes rotate in a counter-clockwise direction around an "eye." Hurricanes have winds at least 74 miles per hour. When they come onto land, the heavy rain, strong winds and heavy waves can damage buildings, trees and cars. The heavy waves are called a storm surge. Storm surges are very dangerous and a major reason why you MUST stay away from the ocean during a hurricane warning or hurricane. is hard to imagine, but a group of pilots called The Hurricane Hunters actually fly directly into hurricanes! The 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron, known at the Hurricane Hunters, are part of the Air Force Reserve. They fly right into the eye of the hurricane to get information on the hurricane. This information is used by the National Hurricane Center to make predictions about the size, strength and future path of the hurricane. This information, in turn, is used by local officials who need to make decisions about possible evacuations of areas that might be at risk for the hurricane. Hurricane hunters use WC-130 aircraft on their weather missions. The planes have a six-person crew that includes the aircraft commander, co-pilot, flight engineer, navigator, weather officer and a dropsonde system operator. The dropsonde system operator releases the dropsonde - a weather-sensing canister attached to a small parachute. This canister radios back to the aircraft information on the temperature, humidity, pressure and winds inside the storm. The weather information is processed aboard the aircraft and transmitted by satellite to the National Hurricane Center.
The first mission to check a new hurricane is flown at a low-level altitude, generally between 500 and 1,500 feet. Later, as the storm builds in strength, the flights are at higher altitudes. The planes fly right into the storm - not above it! The ride can get pretty bumpy as the area around the eye is usually surrounded by a solid ring of thunderstorms called the eyewall. Sometimes the clouds and rain are so thick the aircraft's wings are barely visible to the crew.
Tornadoes
Tornadoes are nature's most violent storms. Tornadoes must always be taken seriously. Tornadoes can be very dangerous -- sometimes even deadly. They come from powerful thunderstorms and appear as rotating, funnel-shaped clouds. Tornado winds can reach 300 miles per hour. They cause damage when they touch down on the ground. They can damage an area one mile wide and 50 miles long. Every state is at some risk, but states in "Tornado Alley" have the highest risk. Tornadoes can form any time of the year, but the season runs from March to August. The ability to predict tornadoes is limited. Usually a community will have at least a few minutes warning. The most important thing to do is TAKE SHELTER when a tornado is nearby.
Tornado Watch -- Tornadoes are possible. Stay tuned to the radio or television news.
Tornado Warning -- A tornado has been sighted. Take shelter immediately!
Pet worries
like hurricanes, tornadoes and floods don't just affect you -- they also affect your pets. And your pets depend on you for their safety. There are many ways to be "Pet Prepared," but you must think ahead and start planning NOW. Your local Humane Society or your veterinarian can help you. During a disaster, if you see an injured or stranded animal that needs help, tell your parent or adult to contact your local animal control officer or animal shelter. Remember, even if you don't have to evacuate, your pet may be stressed or upset and will need extra attention.
Your pet disaster kit should include:
Pet food and treats
Drinkable water in plastic bottles
Can opener for canned food
Pet medications and medical records in a waterproof container
Sturdy leashes, harnesses and/or carriers so you can move your pets safely and they can't escape (remember they may be scared and may act different than usual)
Current photos of your pet in case they get lost
The name of your veterinarian
Pet beds and toys, if there is room.
All your pets should have an identification tag and collar, too.
In the summer I'll get like 12 hours of sleep, school time is only seven.
btw, Stephen Harper should just go away.
" Harsh, but I'd be careful posting things like that here, me and you can get in trouble sence were here and that...thing was posted....." She snorted and jammed her finger down on the space bar.
still this report needs my help! ^^
" Try not to post any long bits here. So, you have to do a report too?"
yep...tornadoes....horribale to search for!!

A report about tornados? Have you tried searchin on wikipedia or searching through for news reports about other tornado cases? That usually helps.
" Feh, I can't believe your trying to help her out! She'll write down anything! Once, in First Grade I told her fake answers to a math page. She wrote them down and got an F." Blinks.
The degeneration of the American educational system continues, Aleks. xDWow. I never knew it was humanly possible to get an F in first grade math... xD
