    "Encouraging advice" only motivates you to draw more and thus hopefully you get better on your own. It doesn't directly make you better like specific advice [positive or negative] does.

    I would also advise not to get too hung up on the materials you use. Lately I've mostly just been using a number 2 pencil and a 5.5x8.5 sketchbook, and yet with those simple tools I maintain a daily comic in my school for encouragement and criticsm. Forcing myself to atleast do it for half a school year or a full one, I expect to grow leaps and bounds in skill with it.

    You can always try drawing without color and see how that goes.

    Good point, I was wrong. ^^;

    I was gonna say something else. It slipped my mind. I'll edit this if it comes back =/

    orite.

    Shinji. I don't care what you say about my art. What critiques you give.

    What I care about is how you say it.

    Also, one last thing.
    Think about this, don't answer right away.
    Would you give that kind of critique to a first grader?

    Also, new art! Honestly, do you think this whole thing would stop me?! XD

  • Just a quick tip when drawing people/humans: Your humans' heads don't have a very distinct shape. To make it look more realistic, draw a slight 'dent' right at about eye level. This will give your human a cheekbone and make it look much better.

    Also, ShinjisLover is one of the few people here who gives criticism that actually helps other people improve, if they're willing to listen. Their advice could really help you improve your work. :3

    Boo, I have to type this out again? Ok...

    First off, I utterly adore the design for that Milotic XD! And I really like the way you drew the cat girl's body! They're really stylised!
    Though, I have to agree with Rana on the black bits of Pichii's design, and with LugiaFreak about the face shapes :3

    A little variation in the line width in places where a lot of lines come together, like between spikes of hair and things (doesn't have to be drastic XD; but you get what I mean, right?) will make your stuff look even more epic than it does already :3 Ahh XD I hope that helps!

    So um. I'm going to assume that everything got resolved in one way or another.

    ShinjisLover, I would have to agree that some parts of your critique were a little crude. That last tidbit about her Shinji art particularly was uncalled for and unnecessary.

    Now I hope you guys don't mind, but I don't really have time to sit here and read all of your debate word for word, so I'm just gonna go ahead and say what my impression so far is:

    1. ShinjisLover was in the wrong for being crude and far too blunt. This isn't a matter of critique, this is a matter of respect towards other members.
    2. Uh, but I do think he presented lots of great points regardless. Easily the best critique I've seen in this forum for a very very long time. And honestly, in my opinion, they're not that offensive. (Maybe I'm just too used to Allstories.) I mean, if you didn't want a critique like Shinji's, then next time you need to put "Criticism Discouraged" or something somewhere in your first post. Because really, we do get much more distasteful critiques here at PC.
    3. I do applaud Danielle for handling the situation so maturely. Thumbs up for you, I'm so glad you didn't flip out. xD; In the end, I honestly think it wasn't a big deal though, so nobody get's infracted. But Shinji, maybe word your critiques a little better in the future- there are lot's of ways to convey that something is repulsive to you that are loads nicer. And finally, everyone else who thought that Shinji was being a jerk, um.... well, just don't ask for critiques in the future, and problem solved. Not all of us are here to pat your ego, and I think that's the biggest problem. I personally would rather see scathing things like what Shinji wrote than the usual, dumb and worthless "Omg I love your art, that's so cute!" comments.

    Sorry I'm a bit late on the pick-up, but this is the kind of situation I just can't let die as I usually would for old reports. xD;

    Loki, can't blame ya for not wanting to read all of my walls of text. Sorry about that, I somehow lack the ability to sum up what I want to say bluntly, which is pretty embarassing.

    Something really rubs me the wrong way about posting art and then saying "Criticism discouraged", almost like it's a complete contradiction of itself, but that's just me.

    LugiaFreak's right, heads should pretty much never be circles.
