chapter seven
sorry about the wait
Chapter Seven
Ash?s mind went blank. His ears were screaming with the sound of the gun. He was pale. He sprang over to the still figure of May and wrestled the gun from her hands desperately, knocking her to the ground.
May looked at him oddly. Ash looked back at her and said reluctantly, ?Yes, I love you May. Don?t shoot yourself.?
Oh, crap, now I?ve lied to save her life. Now she thinks I love her. Oh, crap crap crap. I?m stuck in a trap. CRAP!
May smiled and pressed her lips gently to Ash?s lightly freckled cheek. Ash was taken aback. He struggled against her embrace. He didn?t want love!
Her soft lips pressed harder, long rounds of kisses. Her arms pulled him snugly under her chin. Ash couldn?t break free of her grip. She kissed him again and again. Ash flushed and groaned inwardly as she manipulated him. He surrendered, being unable to break from her grip.
Crap! I can?t tell her the truth. She?ll hate me and kill herself again. But I can?t not keep her deluded. And I don?t want this. I?m twelve!
It?s crazy how love spins everything out of control, isn?t it?

James woke up the next morning with pain shooting through his head. He looked around him. Everything was blurred like looking through a rain-coated window.
?Please tell me you?re alive, please! Please, no, no?? he whimpered, crying.
Jessie and Meowth lay flat on the floor of the cave, a pool of slowly-drying red blood circling them. James leapt to his feet and dived for them.
He hit the ground with a crack. Excruciation coursed through his leg.
?James??
?Huh, who? You?re alive!?
?Of course I?m alive, you numbskull!? Jessie snapped.
?Who - who - who are you? You?re - a ghost!?
?I?m Jessie, you idiot! And I haven?t died! Were you having a nightmare??
Meowth cackled gleefully. ?Looks like Jim had a nightmare,? he drawled.
James looked around blankly. ?But it was so real? And I was awake. And you were dead.?
Jessie sneered and shook her head. ?I?m alive, Meowth?s alive, and??
?And?? James prompted. ?I?m dead?
?No, you?re not all there in the head,? the teenage girl said impatiently, rolling her eyes.
James looked away. He couldn?t remember anything. And it had been so real? All he could remember was that? hallucination.
Meowth opened the food container. ?There?s nothing left,? he whined. ?James, did you eat it all? Hey, what?s this??
Meowth held a small package. James opened it. Inside were a number of pills.
?James, you?ve been taking?? Jessie looked aghast.
?Drugs,? Meowth supplied, pale as ever.

Ross said, ?Misty, I have to leave for home again. I?m on a trip to see the world, maybe go to Kanto - but I?ll stop home first.?
Misty blinked. ?Ah,? she replied vaguely. Their love was over already? She?d known Ross was right for her, but fate was saying ?No.?
?Will you?? Ross held her hand. Misty?s heart thrashed wildly. ?travel with me??
?Yes!? Misty cried excitedly.
?Home with me first??
?Of course,? Misty smiled.
Ross?s eyes were intent on her. ?To? Fallabor??
Misty?s heart fell. Ash? and everyone else? would be travelling undoubtedly to Fallabor Town. What if she met Ash? A wave of disappointment washed over her.
?I - I don?t know,? Misty stammered, mouth dry.
?Why??
?I - I? I?ll come,? Misty said heavily, resigning herself.

The soft grey of pre-dawn lit the cave very dimly when Ash woke up, next to May?s sleeping bag. His arm was around her, his head still throbbing from the kiss, and it felt strange.
?May,? Ash croaked.
?Ready for some more loving?? May smiled, and winked. She?d been awake for ages, feigning slumber.
?Nah? We should have some breakfast and keep going. We?ve got to get to Fallabor Town for that Super Contest, remember??
?Oh, yeah!? May?s face brightened with anticipation.
Glad to have distracted her from him, Ash wandered away and shook Max and Brock. They opened their eyes and yawned.
?It?s - yawn - five o?clock,? Max could barely suppress another yawn.
?Mmmm? Joy? Oh, Jenny? Huh? Oh,? Brock murmured. ?Br - br - breakfast, then.?
Breakfast was subdued. All of them were dwelling on Misty, but they didn?t say it.
?I guess we?d better go look for her,? Brock said quietly.
?I don?t know where she is,? Ash remarked.
?Well,? Max replied sarcastically, ?if you did, we?d have gone and gotten her by now,? It was a way of venting his depression.
?Do you think she went on to Fallabor?? May suggested.
?Perhaps,? Brock responded dully. ?I guess we can go there and look.?
?We could split up,? Ash said. ?One party goes to Fallabor, one goes back the way we came.?
?Yeah,? May sighed. ?I?m going with Ash to Fallabor. I can do my contests up there, too.?
Ash shuddered. Alone with May??
Brock winked. ?Max and I will go the other way.? He elbowed Ash.
Ash?s face was on fire. Was it so obvious?
Max and Brock left; Ash and May waited uncomfortably and silently. The mellow sunshine was permeating the crevices of the cave, and it was making their pink faces steamier and steamier.
?Shall we go??
May kissed Ash. Ash flinched. ?What are we waiting for??
