definatly turn based
it just wouldnt be pokemon if it was real time
like when they tried to make advanced wars under fire for gamecube and tried to make it an fps
that just ruined the whole game and you couldn't really call it adavnced wars anymore
as a matter of fact they ended up calling it batallion wars instead

That's a really hard question. Turn based is so classic that I've learned to like it. I really wouldn't mind if it's turn based.

On the other hand, Real Time would be so cool. I really would like how that would work!

Whichever, it doesn't matter to me I just want to play the game. :P

i think of this
#1 a pokemon has 4 attacks so put them on 4 butons, the rest, menu, punch/kick and dodge

I think adding some reality to the game would be cool, like sending out your pokemon whenever you please, training them however you want, being able to control the pokemon, But the DS is realitivly new to pokemon, and well, It really would take some time before they made a real big kick *** game, if they do manage real time that would be cool, but I wouldn't expect it so soon... You have to know limits... Not all systems and things can correspond things like trying to use a 3D system in a NES game, that just wouldn't go over well, whoo 3 pallets!!!!

But really look at all the awsome games that are out that have found the entire potential of the GameBoy, very impressive, even the DS it self is impressive, the first portable 3D system that has games that you can actually fully enjoy, But all I would really like to see in a future game would be.

More trainer pics and such like that, I am really tired of seeing the same types of trainers.

More variety in what you can catch in which game. Seriously especially in the US.

Actual ability to get serebii... without cheating in the US.

I would also like to see a good Day Night system again, that would be better in a game, and mabey cut the whole grassy areas idea, make it so you have to work to find the pokemon you want. I want something that hasn't been done before...

and oh yeah, mabey a large range for being able to battle and communicate and trade online, that would be cool, not to mention actual problems in the game that you needed to solve, and mabey more of a anime story type, like having to achieve something, not to mention a real pokemon leauge, fighting trainers and then moving to the eiltes, But how would fly work on this game? would you guide the pokemon to the town sorta like on DBZ legacy of goku II? XD

it would be a nice change but my bet is that they won't change it.

Trading between the GBA games and Daimond/Pearl would probably be hard if they made the battle system non turn-based, so I guarantee you it will not change.

I say turn-based, but it needs an overhaul. First off, the perspective should be changed. I get sick of staring at the back of my Pokemon. Perhaps a side view, like Final Fantasy (and many other RPGs). Even a 3/4 view (Final Fantasy Tactics, Disgaea, La Pucelle) would be a breath of fresh air.

Second, there had better be more character animation for these games. I understand the limitations of the systems that the core Pokemon games have appeared in thus far, but the DS is capable of so much more. If the game did happen to be real time, then the character animation would be absolutely necessary. Still, the turn-based battles desperately need to be spiced up a bit.

Turn based for sure!

its more exciting instead of -one person attacks the other person attacks
and Speed would actually matter!
it would be good if they were a fully movable battle system!

Turn based...it should be the way it always has been, just my opinion.

I don't know if thkis has been said before but here it goes :

I think the real time battling, because it wouyld improve on pokemon dodging techniques unlike the moves in previous games (excluding moves like speed up move e.g aggility, or things liek double team) plus they would have to change the battle capture sequence, like mayge give you a few seconds after the pokemon has fainted to atch it, but if you fsil the pokemon regains health, and stuff like, the battle sequesnce would go,
opponent, attack, you countetr str8 away i think thi is its main downfall, or maybe they will make the double battle thems, up to triple battle or somethig like that

Hmm...here's a thought. Keep the turn based system, but enhance it. I'd like to see a battle system where attack power and block / defence varies depending on button timing. (Think "Paper Mario" or "Mario and Luigi SSS") This would make battles much more interactive, and more fun.

About the visuals, I believe that the DS is capable of handeling a lower poly count version of the GCN models used in Colosseum and XD. Thus, pokemon motion would be more fluid, and would feel more "real".

And speaking of "real", you really should be able to select which pokemon to send out. It could be an Options toggle to allow you to do this, similar to "Battle Mode: Switch or Set", maybe "Pokemon Select: Auto or Manual". Auto would use the roster you set up outside of battle, Manual would let you edit this roster at the start of battle.
