Debug-Mode not working

I have a little problem with the debug mode from pokemon essentials. I tried to enter the debug mode with f7 and f9, but it won't be working. I've also tried it with fn + f-key but nothing.
In my search for a solution I also saw one way with editing the script a bit, but I don't know what script I must edit. Can someone eventually explain me how to get in debug mode? I tried to find a way, but nothing is working :/

edit: I downloaded the newest version (16) and also edited the things from v16.2. Just in case if someone ask me what version I use.

You enter debug mode when launched from RMXP (as opposed to launching the game from your Game.exe)

For a more technical answer, Debug mode is enabled if the variable $DEBUG is true. So, you could always make an event that enables it for you when you test with Game.exe (That's what I do so my friends can bug test).
Playtesting in RMXP automatically does it though, as Mej71 already mentioned.
