Music desert island discs

Each week a guest, called a "castaway" during the programme, is asked to choose eight recordings (usually, but not always, music) a book and a luxury item that they would take if they were to be cast away on a desert island, whilst discussing their lives and the reasons for their choices.

just so you don't get sidetracked, the luxury item for everyone is a stick of deodorant of your choice. and because this is primarily about music, your book is any edition of where's wally.
but yeah - what would be your desert island discs and why?

very difficult. I'm not sure I'll be able to narrow it down. Let's Give It A Go.

jimmy eat world - clarity [very important to my personal development, possibly my favorite album of all time, will allow me to Feel Things Intensely]
caetano veloso - transa [i feel like this would just Work in this environment, plus it's a record I've listened to a fair amount and am caught between "i'm sure this is amazing" and "i have yet to internalize this completely"]
the zombies - odessey and oracle [token 60s pick; probably my favorite album from the 60s, if not that then at least top 3. it's fucking amazing]
big star - 3rd [not sure if this is my favorite big star record, but it's probably the one i've spent the least time with]
kanye west - late registration [because i know it's awesome but haven't yet played it out yet like i kind of have with college dropout]
maudlin of the well - bath [my favorite metal album of all time, and there is still a lot left for me to uncover in it even after some 20-something listens]
phaorah sanders - karma [the one jazz record i'd bring with me. probably my favorite. very tasty stuff]
a roy orbison compilation of some sort [because i'd love to get into his stuff and i love all of it that i've heard]

this would probably be different if I had answered tomorrow. Tough Stuff.

Alright then, this list would possibly change a lot day by day. The albums coming to my head right now though are

Minutes to Midnight (Linkin Park) - I had to go with at least one of their albums since they're my favourite band. Minutes to Midnight provides a good mix of the various sounds the band has played with and was also the first album of theirs I remember encountering. In addition it has a nice mix of chill and aggressive songs (to fit moods I'm likely to experience whilst stranded on an island) and includes Leave Out All The Rest - my favourite of their songs.

Anthems - A Celebration of Australia (John Williamson) - To remind me of home and also because Williamson is my favourite country artists and probably my favourite Australian singer. Every song on that album carries some sort of story and inspires some sort of emotion. This album was also one of the very first I ever listened to or owned. Bonus points for including Diamantina Drover, my favourite song of all time.

We All Fall Down (Prozak) - Prozak is my favourite rapper so adds nicely to my collection of favourite artists to keep my amused. His songs tend to have deeper meanings and would reflect a lot of the kind of thoughts I think I'd have whilst stranded on a desert island .

The Truth About Love (Pink) - Pink is one of the best pop artists I have ever heard and I admire not just her voice but her artistry. I actually almost picked another album of hers but this one narrowly edges it out as my favourite.

Encore (David Garrett) - The Violin is my favourite instrument and Garrett my favourite violinist. I think if I were to be stuck on an island I'd want to have an album of quality and diverse violin music to sooth my soul or motivate me to keep on keeping on. This album has a good mix of both.

Asymmetry (Karnivool) - A really good alternative rock/metal band (one of my favourites) and a particularly unique album. I don't think my desert island discs would be complete without a Karnivool album and this has a really interesting and different sound to basically anything else ever so I think it's perfect.

21 (Adele) - Apart from me just generally being a huge fan of Adele, this is arguably the most iconic pop/R&B album of the generation. I think it's a great choice for a desert island disc. I could listen to it for hours xD

The Gray Chapter (Slipknot) - I didn't have anything really heavy on the list yet and I need at least one heavy album on my list. I had a brief think about heavier bands that I particularly enjoy and Slipknot was the first to spring to mind. This album in particular is my favourite of the band's.
