4th Gen Diamond / Pearl Q&A Thread

I'm not entirely sure how Darkrai is received, but so long as you save before talking to the man in green, you should be able to SR for shininess.

Unless the Darkrai was set to non-shiny, in which case you're screwed. :|

Hm...
Well I'd really like to know
But all I know of is that Kyle is pre-set, but I'm unsure of Darkrai

im having some problems with the iv system. how do you know when a pokemon has high iv in a stat??

IV calculators. Use Serebii's Calculator if you want a quick approximation, or use Metalkid's Calculator if you're hardcore and want exact numbers (and have lots of Rare Candies).

And obviously, make sure you know your Pokemon's EVs, as they get in the way of calculation. If you don't know what EVs are, IVs are something you should worry about later.

Say like I had pokerus on a level 15 bronzor. I leveled him to level 26. Killing gravelors. And now he is level 27. Except I gave him a power belt which is like a +4 Def EVs any idea on how many more gravelors to kill from now?

I was not really sure but I just estimated 39 which I am pretty sure I killed a whole lot more than that. Again lvl. 15-26 with PKRS then at lvl. 26 I finally got my hands on a powerbelt and lvled him once to lvl. 27 with the power belt on him and the Pokerus. So how many more gravelors?

Well, all you need to know is a little bit of math. Let's start with the EV formula:

39 Gravelers x ( 2 for Pokerus x (2 EVs base))

39 Gravelers x (4 EVs per)

156 EVs.

This is assuming you had no items equipped, and only had Pokerus. Now, since the maximum amount of EVs obtainable in a stat is 252, just subtract the amount of EVs you have from that. Then, divide that number by the amount of EVs gained per enemy (Gravelers give 12 EVs if you have Pokerus and the Power Belt). You should be able to do the math from here yourself.

When a pokemon is caught in the wild, it has 0 EVs right?

Wait so the 156 EVs is 39 gravelers + Pokerus + EV base 2 stat? So it equals up to 156 EVs? Along with 10 defence vitamins which is 100 EVs. How many tentacools will I have to kill if I want max EVs. I want the amount in EVs with the Pokerus. Or with both the Pokerus and the belt. I would like both of those amounts.

Geez, you're 15- you passed grade school arithmetic. You should be able to do this stuff on your own. But I'll walk you through this one last time:

According to Serebii, Tentacool gives 1 SDef EV, as its base. Now, let's look at the various formulas:

[If using Pokerus, and no item]
2 x (Base EV)

[If using Pokerus and Power Item. I shouldn't have to tell you to make sure you're using the right Power item.]
2 x (Base EV + 4)

Plug in the numbers yourself.

Lol just lazy and all. Wait so with pokerus and no item. Pokerus= 2 x Gravelors amount of EV 2. Which is about 4 EVs. Then 39 which I killed more but 39 x 4. 156. Along with 10 vitamins which is 100 EVs. THEN HOLY HELL 256?!?!? THATS OVERKILL. I better start working on my Special Defence.

Another question. Does bronzong both have the levitate ability and the Heatproof ability? Or they come with any of those two natures randomly?

they come randomly I belive

A Pokemon can only have one ability at a time- for Bronzong, it can have either Heatproof or Levitate (it had better be Levitate). The ability is determined randomly at birth (excluding Pokemon with one available ability, who will always have that ability).

how can u chain shinys? I've heard a lot of people talking about chaining shinys i whanna no how!

first you need to hav the pokeradar to start chaining shinies,
all you need to do is go to a patch of grass and use the pokeradar to find pokemon...but if you faint or catch the pokemon, patches of grass will move again without having to recharge(chaining), continue to do this until ou see a special patch of grass which should contain a shiny pokemon of one you were chaining.

lookup a video on Youtube to see how this works
How to chain a shiny Pokemon
What a shiny grass patch looks like

The information that you have given looks correct. Don't worry about the date though, that is just what the DS' time and date was set to when the OT migrated that Jirachi from their 3rd Gen game, and as you may know, one can freely change the DS' time and date settings in the DS menu.
