Did you ever think it would last this long?

Pokémon has been "alive" you can say for almost fourteen years now, and I consider it to be a strong going franchise for Nintendo & GameFreak. There have been many new franchises that came and went only within a few years, but Pokémon like a handful of other franchises has been ongoing for years to remember now. When you first came across Pokémon, whether it be through the anime, games, cards, etc. did you ever think it would last for so long, considering the repetition it has done and the ongoing experience of it all?

Never did I think it'd last this long. I played Red and Blue shortly after they first came out when I was eight years old, and twelve years later, it's still popular and I'm still playing. Crazy how these things work out.

Irt struck upon a completely orginal niche. That alone can carry a franchise a l-o-n-g way:D I honestly didn't think it would last this long- but am glad it did. Even if the quality of the pokemon took a steep decline

I thought it would end after the Johto Journeys, but I was wrong.

I never thought it would go this long, but now it seems like an eternal franchise to me. Until they run out of ideas, that is.

    Heeeeeck no. XD

Well, I remember a specific convo I had with my mom when I was 9..

"I bet I'll still be a huge Pokemon fan, even when I'm like 18! 8D"

"BAHAHAH! No you won't.. you won't even remember what Pokemon is when you're that old!"

<-- as you can see from my age off to the side there: In your face mom. In your face.

Although, when I said that.. I said "I'll still be a fan", not that I knew the franchise itself would still be spitting out entirely new series/games by that point. xD I had no idea Pokemon would last this long, and with the 5th gen coming out, there's another.. at least 6 more years of it to go. It really amazes me sometimes.

Franchises are like the stock market.

If you spread it around to enough markets you can survive any thing.

I was really surprised it would last even this long. I was sure it would end after Johto Journeys, but the graphics of Pokemon Emerald had steeply declined after the pristine quality of Pokemon Crystal. I was and am still annoyed that Ash/team rocket was still around... funny that.

Im not surprised but I am surprised that this type of franchise is still popular. It has always been the biggest of its kind and from now, I expect it to be strong for years to come.

I'm impressed Pokemon is still going on. A year or two ago I was sure that Pokemon was dying out since I wasn't hearing about it so much...until I joined Pokemon Crater. 8D

I'm a bit nervous about Gen 5 though-what ELSE can Game Freak do? :cer_confused:

About the time the third generation was introduced, I was pretty sure it would be here to stay for the long haul. Before then, I wasn't so sure of how long it would last, but now it's a given this is still one of the strongest franchises out there.

I'm not at all surprised it's lasted so long. I always had faith, for some reason.

What really surprises me is all the people who claim to be fans but only profess how much they hate the series now.

When I was first introduced to pokemon I was very young. So at the time it never even crossed my mind how long this would continue or that something like this could end. Actually to tell you the truth even now I've never said to myself, "Wow, pokemon has lasted a really long time." The thought has just never come about.

I personally thought the franchise would die during Johto because of the filler episodes and the fact Pokémon was considered to be mature and uncool. However, it did weed out those people who only followed it because it was cool. Pokémon is no longer a fad, and now retained a very strong following. In my opinion, the Pokémon "crash" (that occurred with the Tech Bubble burst) was actually a good thing for it.

when I was younger I didnt expect for it to be going as long as it is now. I thought it would dissappear like digimon yugioh and all the other good stuff. But now it looks like pokemon will be going on for awhile longer. I think HG&SS gave pokemon a HUGE boost.

well to be honest..there was a period where I just kinda forgot about it (right about the start of Gen 3)
It wasn't until Gen 4 came out when I put the memories of the show behind me and just focused on the point that mattered

    "These...games...were...epic" -my friend stoffy

It doesn't suprise me at all...It's just like every other video game franchise that just works and doesn't comprmise on it's ideals. I mean...the Mario series started in...1985 and it's still going strong..in fact probally stronger then it's ever been.
I'm just suprised I found myself becoming so amused by the games again XD...

Never. When I was young, I thought it would just stop after Kanto.
