Ugh, gender prejudice has always been my least favorite. I'm far from a feminist, but I find it ridiculous that it's so prevalent in 2014. Heck, even historically, matters of gender are challenged late.

And it bleeds into media and character writing, which then makes it affect me, making it more annoying.

Well, by that I mean I don't fight for female empowerment. Not in the traditional way, at least. I mean, I do take note of a lot of female stereotypes in media (even the ones that really aren't pointed out because they're so commonplace) and groan at the unnecessary knobs and handles put on female characters to make them more normal/interesting (depending on the context) and have no qualms against playing as females in a video game and sometimes even feel enabled to, for whatever reason.

...In that sense, I guess ideologically I am something of one. But I've always been on the equality side and think that women should be treated as...well, people. Not trophies nor as lesser beings. And I find it ridiculous, and even disgusting, that an entire gender can be (and is) treated that way.

Yes, that's exactly what feminism is. :P

We seriously need to get rid of the idea that feminism means thinking women are better than men.

That is perfect, Don-tan.

That's the problem with colloquialisms, they change with the tides. Or popular opinion, if we wanna get literal.

Modern day feminists are scary, for the most part, so I generally don't like to associate with them. I guess you could say they're the extremists, but I'm not even sure if they're the vocal minority.

...Though I guess they are the minority. I'd suspect the majority are average women. Or god, I would at least hope so. I'm not so fine with the idea that those involved, for the most, are fine with things as they are.

^ I daren't watch that, so dunno.

Bingo, macho man. I'm very glad you're getting food for thought. :D

For me it's such a natural thing that everyone who want gender equality are feminists, but I guess it's all about the values of the society you're born into and the associations that follow.

The extremism has begun affecting our views on the subject as well, though. "Men's rights" movements are popping up here and there, often in connection to conservative nationalist groups, interestingly enough. And more and more especially young people are starting to view feminism in itself as unneeded extremism.

We have a political party here which is completely focused on feminism, which has been labelled extremistic by some countries' media. I do find that curious.

...Must say that I don't agree with many of the party's points though, so there is that.

In a nutshell:

Extreme feminism= Women are better than men

Real feminism= Women are equals to men and men are equals to women. People of both genders should have equal rights.

Extreme feminism gives real feminism a bad name.
