What is the age of the average Korra viewer? Seems to be a lot of teens and adults. Suppose if it has kid viewers that sort of ending might have been surprising, considering the 1950s audience that is America.

Presumably aimed toward those who were kids when the original Avatar aired. The creators are active on tumblr, so they're well aware of the big crowd there as well.

Also if I understand things correctly they didn't actually show anything. They just said the two were really, really good friends. While being all emotional and gazing into each others' eyes and crap. Might just fly over the 50s audience's heads.
