Yeah, spiral or whirlpool. I guess Kishi chose it because a big theme of the series was going to be the endless cycle of hatred. Or maybe he just liked the design.

Hinata's name means something like 'a sunny place' and Hyuuga was 'towards the sun'. With Naruto's chakra being orange in the manga I think you can see what he was going for there. A lot of the other names are related to personality traits, like the playful Iruka meaning dolphin. Then there are names which are just ripped out of history like Sasuke and Nagato.

Ah, my avatar? That's Yukari Yakumo, controller of Borders and creator of Gensokyo, the setting of Touhou Project (though, now that you mention it, I might change my motto to be more general).

And thanks. I tried a Touhou theme last year, but I made it Christmas morning and defaulted to a Touhou doujin I found (which, all things considered, was quite hilarious). This time I had time to organize it and even keep my profile picture and youtube video consistent with the rest of the theme.
