I enjoy both because I don't really criticize everything about a series like some people do
It's why I still love pokemon and golden sun
There's a big difference between being cynical and having an opinion.
For instance, if I'm going to stay on topic, with the whole series vs. film thing, I'll use a series I love as an example: Gurren Lagann. I outright like the movies more than the show. Though the movie cuts out a small bit in the form of a montage that is relatively supplemental to the shows themes, I think, overall, the movies are a huge step up from the show. The pacing is better, the characters still feel like the characters- nothing is lost in the translation and I'd say some of the characters have even more personality than they did in the show. The movies also stands to be a paragon of sound design, knowing exactly how to use and shift audio to complement what is on screen while hitting the viewer as hard as possible. Not to mention that the added scenes in both movies (the ending themes, especially) are just plain fantastic. They were what got me into TTGL after an incredibly mediocre run in with the show, not having impacted me even by the end. The movies are just plain better.
And it has issues, sure. A certain montage might leave some first time watchers confused, it can be slightly vague how the first and second movies connect, and in the first movie you're given a lot less time with the characters, which can be a bite in the ass around a certain point where you're supposed to feel something for a specific character (possibly).
But just ignoring those issues isn't the right way to go about it. Heck, there are certainly more than that, but I still love the movies. Really, it's accepting the flaws of something you like that will enable you to truly appreciate it for what it is.
