Do you like text language?

Text lanuage

I can deal with "ok", and abbreviations like "IRL", but much beyond that annoys me. I'll occasionally misspell something, but I never do that stuff on purpose.

Side Note: ok is actually spelled "Okay", Okay?

That first post isn't necessarily text language. It's just typing in a retarded manner.

I do shorten words when texting because there is a character limit and I don't like to send a million messages to get one point across.

To me, anyone who types like that all the time is very poorly educated.
With cellphones I can understand using text language since it's difficult to text complete words on a phone and consumes a lot of time..
But with the internet there is no excuse for that idiotic slaughter of the English language.
If they type like that just sometimes I don't mind it as much.

I don't use text language unless I'm just playing around.
Even then I only tend to use 'rl' 'btw' and 'wtf'.

I cant stand it. When I'm talking to a noob though, that's being really nooby, ill be like: lyk wth mun? whut u doin?!!1123!11! But I barely ever do that. ;)

No, I rather dislike it. I text in proper english, though seeing as I'm assisted by my phone's full keyboard, it might be easier for me than for someone else.

One word: No.

More words: Just because we don't have to be literate on the internet/cell phones doesn't mean we should go off and type liek retardz. I personally prefer being literate in any case, with the exception of emotes and SOME abbrieviations. Typing barely understandable words all the time usually means you're not very literate, or, in some cases, I suppose, too lazy. Which is inexcuseable, in my opinion.

No.
It was useful (and apparently created for) when mobile phones were limited to a certain few hundred letters per text message, but now only serves to aggravate. I don't hate it myself, simply don't understand why people would type it on a computer since it actually takes more time and effort to deliberately mis-spell things when one knows how to already.

it lyk ttly dpnds on da sitution & lyk where im at da tme

Okay, no, I generally never type nor text like that. I don't have a thing against "text language" when texting between friends on a cellphone; especially when the message starts getting very long (and it starts costing me more money to send a longer text ;_; ), but I still try to text as normally as possible and only end up just using abbreviations such as "brb" or "btw" etc that basically everyone knows.

However, I do detest the use of "text language" in more formal situations and at times online. Is it really that difficult to type normally when you have a full keyboard whether on an IM client or on a forum?? Is it really necessary to abbreviate and shorten everything to the point where it barely represents the English language? I'm especially disgusted at New Zealand's current educational standards. Text language is "permitted" when answering exams in non-English exams (e.g. Science or Maths). WHY. Seriously, this is the reason why our qualifications are so easy to get and not recognized to an international standard. If such a basic thing as spelling is removed from formal situations, why don't we just dumb down everything entirely and revert to drawings and grunts as a form of communication?

And I'm going to shut up now.

If you're just texting on a phone or in a chat room then I can tolerate it. If someone types like that on website like PC or Facebook, they pretty much come off as stupid. It's harsh, but true.

I hate it. It makes it difficult to understand someone.
Slowly and slowly, it is contributing towards the change of the real English language - which is bad.
Well, I want the English language to be used the way it is, not in a distorted way - I just hate that.

It's just annoying when people can't even make a little effort to spell properly.

Hell no. It's an insult to the English language and I, for one, hate it.
Yes I agree to what you said.
I really hate text language, not that because I can't read it ;) I know how to read it, but it's really annoying...sometimes I can't even understand what's that thing the send to me DDD:

And it will affect your grammar and spelling.

Ye. i do. i luv txt lnge! nd m nt to lzy to spel

Spoiler:

What if a dyslexic person were to see something like this?

I hate text language, we have spelling tests at school for a reason, to avoid one-letter vocabularies.

Makes my blood boil when people are too lazy to write things properly..
