I gotta say 90% of the people who claim to hate rap are computer nerds and people who think they are like the smartest people in the world and the people who claim rap is pointless and stupid CLEARLY HAVE NEVER LISTENED TO RAP. People like Tupac, Common, Talib Kwali, Even Kanye tell STORIES then you have the Gangsta rap with like Ice cube, then you have Old school like N.W.A/Public Enemy, etc... Then you have the Snap music which is gay which consist of dance songs only which are only good for the beats and the lyrics suck...but OVER ALL for someone to sit here and claim that Rappers are stupid, or rap in general sucks are COMPLETE MORONS because you have to listen to the lyrics...theres more then Guns and Girls to rap... The word play, the metaphors and etc... is what really makes rap.... and regardless what they are talkin about Rap is just another form of Poetry....and the people who argue with that are stupid

EDIT:Oh and if you dont listen to Hip-Hip because you have a VALID REASON, like you just cant get into it, or its just not your style thats cool, but if you just sit here and say things without even trying to listen to MORE THEN 1 SONG, then dont post...

I completely agree with your point, though I'll refrain from the name calling XD. It does slightly get my goat when people instantly dismiss a genre of music without giving it the time of day, and instantly claiming its rubbish.

Now. I'm not a fan, but some (Linking Park, Eminem, Black Eyed Pea's) Do raps, which have a meaning to them...
And I have listned to all the other rap... because like 95% of my year go around saying
'BRAP! I'm a gangsta from da ghetto' and then start singing rap music. Or playing it on their phones very loudly. So I know what it is like, and I really don't see any meaning to half of it. You know like:
'I got new shoes,
wore them in my shiny car
you can't afford them
'cause i'm da bomb
I shot dis guy
from ma shiny car
he died
then I got laid
by a prostitute
for £50 bucks'

You know that? Well yeah.. thats the type of stuff the really digs under my skin!

And SSJ_Joe? Well... what a stupid post. How do you know? Do you know every person who dosn't like rap? And do you watch them at their home? And stalk them? Well? How do you know? I'm not a nerd and I hate rap! I don't think I know everything! So your the retard and the moron her pal! So, you say we are streyotyping you? Well guess what? you just steryotyped everyone who isn't like
'BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP' Whenever they move! So, you know? You have no brains, and you think your smarter than everyone else, just by saying that!
Oh are you gonna call me a goth? Tease me? Oh well! I DEALT WITH 8 YEARS OF BEING TEASED? WANNA KNOW WHY? I DON'T LIKE RAP! I GOT BEAT UP FOR NOT LIKING RAP!

I've never been to fond of Rap and Hip Hop. Though mostly everyone I know listens to it. Im more of a Country, Rock n Roll kinda person.

I completely understand your point, but again you seem to be categorizing Hip Hop into 1 box, where actually there are plenty of different types of rap/hip hop. I'm sorry but generalising really does get me annoyed. The stuff you probably here at school from the chavs is more british rap, which myself Im not a big fan of. I know about all the 'Braaaap Braaaap!' stuff which does get annoying, and probably stuff like Soulja Boy and 50 cent. Thats the sort of stuff gives this genre a bad name. But the hip hop I listen to is far more positive. Stuff from incredible artists like Kanye West, Common, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Fort Minor, I can go on..... some of their lyrics are really deep and very very meaningful, Kanye West especially, talking about the slave trade in Sierra Leonne, and plenty of other examples like that. I won't divulge.

Just trying to make sure people don't categorise all hip hop together, as its a much more well spread genre than people make it out to be.

I reiterate, if your looking to get into hip hop, don't necessarily go for 50 Cent or G-Unit. There are far better examples of deep, meaningful hip hop. Dare I say it, a lot of hip hop is about love!

EDIT: How could I forget Lupe Fiasco or Pharrell Williams? Just another 2 examples of meaningful Hip Hop.

Okay, I see this possibly turning into a flame war. So everyone cool your jets and relax.

I love Hip-Hop. I love the music with meaningful lyrics and I love the songs that are meant to be just fun. Who says music has to have a meaning to be good? I've never understood that argument. Music is supposed to incite an emotion in you. Whether it be to get you pumped up before a game, to relax you after a stressful day, or if you just feel like dancing. My iPod is full of music of all varieties. I don't like all hip-hop and rap, but I enjoy most of it. So just get over the fact that "music has to have meaning." Music has been a form of entertainment and / or expression. It doesn't have to be both.

I think rap has no meaning to it now if your talking about Lupe and Kanye there Hiphop artist not rap also there are different genres of rap. I personally like R&B and Hiphop way more than the split personality of rap music.

Aaahhh.. Okay, I lost my cool.
BUT what you must consider is that SSJ_Joe was putting everyone who dosn't like hip-hop into one box. He arrived with a percentage from where? His head, he is putting all us people who dislike all that (Crappy) hip-hop and stuff into a box, not really thinking about it. I'm not saying all the music is bad. Read my post again, the top! I said that I know that some of the music is great! But most IMO isn't. Get it?

I don't want a flaming war.. but I think SSJ_Joe was trying to start one, calling us all morons for not liking Rap and all that stuff was just begging to be shouted at, so I gave him what he was begging for, he wants to make people angry? He will be the one being shouted at.

Get my point? At all? Anyone?
Or are you gonna say i'm still being stupid and not listen to my point at all because you like rap and Hip-Hop and all that...
I'm not saying anyone will.. but I get a feeling someone will just have to say something to get me angry again.
BUT I still want my point to get across to everyone, and people to actually READ all of my post before saying i'm putting all your music in one box or whatever. If anyone is gonna reply to my post
READ THE WHOLE POST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dude I love hip hop and rap like omg! Im a huge fan of Mr. Cheese, MC Noodles and Young Sissy... Although Mac_A-Roni has some cool raps... *starts rapping* (Hi my names lucario........ I likeplaying Mario?) bye sorry you guys had to listen to me rap... I know I suck I should go jump off a 2 feet high building... No a 2 inch high bulding...

The problem is what you see on T.V. and hear on the radio is "gangsta rap" (yes, this is the actual name). There are a lot of artist out there that just rap about everyday life and not how they shot up some guy. Also, for most raps, its the beat that makes the song and not the lyrics.

I agree of what you said there, qft! I love to listen to rap/hip-hop. I usually will listen to old school too. Like Run DMC, LL Cool J, The Sugarhill Gang, Whodini, Kurtis Blow, MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, Salt N' Pepa, etc. But also I will listen to Kanye West, Jay-Z, Missy Elliott, Common, Nas, P. Diddy, Biggie, Tupac, Freeway, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, Lupe Fisaco, Pharrell Williams, Ludacris, Ja Rule, etc...

Yes most people will only hear the mainstream. Which it is about shooting someone, money, cars, and things like that. Some rappers are like that(Soulja Boy, i.e.). But other rappers rap about meaningful stuff(Lupe, Kanye, Jay-Z, Common, the old school rappers I metioned). Now I like rap/hip-hop like that.

Thats the thing with me. I can't get into rap because I can't find any rap OTHER than the main stream rap. I like meaningful songs. I don't just turn down rap because I like rock or whatever... I turn stuff down after I listen to it.

So yeah, get my point, if they played the meaningful raps then I would most likley be a fan, but all I hear about shooting people, and girls, like, all about getting some smexy time...

So ya... get my point? That I don't mean all rap is like the main stream, or 'gangsta rap' as it were, is what all rap is like. I know for a fact that not all rap is about all the stuff say... solja boy sings about, I know that some of it is about meaningful stuff. But I only see the solja boy genre... so, yeah. Don't get me wrong, if I saw more meaningful rap, I would be all for it ;)

See... I like Taking Back Sunday because it has a meaning! Saying that, I also like stupid funny songs like:
Yeah Toast
Do You Like Waffles?
Date Rape
I Like My Sitar

You know, that sort of funny stuff...
:)

I present to you, real hip hop! Probably 3 of the best rappers in the game right now. Right now real hip hop is losing the war to commercial hip-pop, but it's always refreshing to know that there are still real hip hop artists dropping songs like this.

None of that Soulja Boy, Young Joc, G-Unit rubbish. This is your real, gritty, true to life hip hop.

Another amazing example.

I will listen to it every now and then. It isn't my favourite type but some of them can be good.

^^ Great videos right there. Now those are pretty good. =D

Well I do admit one thing, I do listen to some mainstream rap. And some of it is okay because of the beat. They will usually have a wonderful beat, and I can't help but listen to it. I try not to listen their lyrics, which most of the time are awful. Because of the cussing and stuff. Some of it isn't bad, but others are really bad. For example, Soulja Boy, Paul Wall, Lil Flip, Young Joc, Young Jeezy, Dipset, etc. I won't listen to these guys.

I will listen to 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, Ludacris, Snopp Dogg, Ja Rule, etc. These are the mainstream rappers, and some of their stuff isn't bad. I blame the wonderful beats they use, lol. Their lyrics can be questionable, but I try to block them out of my mind. But most of the time they do rap something meaningful. But I will get to that another time.

I really do miss the old school rap. Now that was wonderful rap right there. *sigh*

I don't know how rap is like today. We get some meaningful stuff now and then, but it is underrated because of the mainstream stuff. And it isn't looking too good. Now the mainstream rappers are having a tough time. As long Common, Kanye, Lupe, Talib, Mos Def are around...maybe they will save hip-hop.

That is all I got to say. I am done. ^_^

True true, I admit myself I listen to some mainstream rap. You do get the odd good song coming out. For example I listen to Fabolous a lot, Cassidy isn't bad, also Juelz Santana. I can name some more. Mainly because they have some hot beats! Even 50 Cent has some good songs, his earlier albums in particular. He might get a lot of hate from people, but he's bringing home the money, so he has the last laugh!

Also, Jay-Z in my opinion is the G.O.A.T (greatest of all time). As a rapper, producer and as a businessman. His Rocafella records franchise is just huuuuge. Massive amount of respect for what he has done. He is old school/new school, a real good mix. Also earning a lot of money from his part ownership in the NBA team the New Jersey Nets, which he is now moving to his hometown Brooklyn I think in a few years.

But like my post with the videos in said, nothing beats the real, gritty hip hop.

I also like Faboulous and Cassidy. They are pretty cool. Yes 50 Cent had great songs. I liked his earlier stuff. The stuff he got now, isn't that good. I miss the old 50 Cent. But he does bring in the money, so can't help that.

YES! I love Jay-Z! He is the greatest of all time. He is a triple threat, lol. Most of his songs do have a lot of meaning, and the beats he uses are so awesome! He is well respected that is for sure. Like I said if Jay-Z, Kanye, Talib, Common, Lupe, Pharrell, Mos Def are around...maybe they will save hip-hop. ^^

Agreed. =D

Rap is basically all I listen to. Mainstream rap is ok, but I like underground stuff alot..especially Lil Wayne's mixtapes. His rhymes are always on point..
