I drew this Latias at about 2:00 a.m. a few weeks ago, and then colored it the next day. I went over-the-top with detail, which I actually usually do, but I can't decide whether my style is too over-done or if it's cool in its own way. Please disregard all former images of Latias you've seen before looking at this: take it in its own context, if you will.

The more discerning among you will notice that the image is rather cut-off: this is because I drew it in the middle of a page I was writing on, so I removed the text from around the image. Anyways, what do you think? It's in pen, and I think that makes the lines a bit too dark; I was contemplating softening those up to a light shade of grey, especially for the feathers. Otherwise, though, I'd like suggestions.

Style should come naturally and unconsciously. Don't try to force it.

I was pretty much not even paying attention when I did that (I was half-asleep), so it's about as unconsciously done as possible. I have super-detailed things before (in a non-sleep deprived state), but I guess it just looks too busy? I might try to tweak the picture so the feathers are really subtle, which should make it more eye pleasing.

And I'm not against lineart by any means...I do plenty of fairly "clean" drawings myself. This was really just an attempt at something a bit different, although given your replies I'll probably reign back on the detailing a good bit. That and the lines probably weren't the best they could be...this is more of a sketch than anything, and I scribbled a bit.
